The Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024 marked a significant stride in fostering industry collaboration and innovation within the defense sector, particularly among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and startups. Here are the key takeaways regarding industry collaboration and licensing agreements:
1. DRDO-Industry Collaboration: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) organized a DRDO-Industry Meet to update and inform industries about various industry-friendly initiatives and policies. This meet aimed to address industry concerns and strengthen the defense m anufacturing sector.
2. Licensing Agreements for Transfer of Technology (LATOT): A pivotal moment at the expo was DRDO handing over 23 LATOT to 22 industries. These agreements spanned a wide range of domains including electronics, laser technology, armaments, life sciences, materials science, combat vehicles, naval systems, and aeronautics. Technologies transferred included Carbon/Carbon Aircraft brakes for LCA Tejas, Infantry Foot Bridge Floating, High Explosive Anti-Personnel Grenade for UBGL, and many more. This move is expected to significantly bolster the defense manufacturing sector and contribute to self-reliance in defense.
3. SAMAR Assessment Certificates : DRDO also presented SAMAR (System for Advance Manufacturing Assessment and Rating) assessment certificates to nine Industry Partners. SAMAR serves as a benchmark to evaluate the competency of defense manufacturing enterprises, thereby enhancing the quality and reliability of defense manufacturing in India.
4. Support for Indian Defence Industries: The expo underscored DRDO's commitment to supporting the development of Indian defense industries towards realizing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). This includes providing technology support, facilitating the transfer of technologies, test & evaluation support, technological and scientific support, R&D funding under TDF (Technology Development Fund), and free use of DRDO patents through the SAMAR scheme.
The Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024 not only showcased cutting-edge technologies but also played a crucial role in catalyzing industry collaboration, technology transfer, and innovation within the defense sector, aligning with the national goal of achieving self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
