What are the top 5 best practices for partnering with a startup?
The biggest challenge to partnering with a startup is the size of their teams. Most startups have small teams with single person handling multiple roles or functions. When such a person has to run around and manage multiple stakeholders on the opposite side (enterprise) it becomes a big challenge and lots of communication gaps can emerge at this point. So, enterprises need to appoint a Single Point of Contact who has experience in handling techno functional requirements and has some understanding of design and user experience. One versatile person with the ability to define, understand and clarify requirements and scope across multiple functions can actually help move things along much faster for both the startup and the enterprise.

How can you maximize virtual teams for Business Strategy?
Managers should focus on "enabling" the team members to be the best of themselves. The ideal way is to invest more time up front in planning, discussing, explaining and enabling rather than start quick and monitor daily. Most people will perform well if they understand why they are doing it. After that, the only gaps that can occur in performance are because of lack of skill (which is a training problem) or a circumstance that prevents them from working (not manageable by us).

How can you maximize virtual teams for Business Strategy?
I think trust is a two-way street. Most of the times managers get into the mode of "are they really working?" kind of thinking. This is detrimental to the overall trust building. Only when we assign ownership and trust them to take it up seriously, without micro managing, will they realize that they're being trusted. Assigning tasks and micro managing them only gives the signal that we don't trust the employee. 🙂
