🔔 The Call for Abstracts at #EHMA2025! How do we build health systems that are not only financially sound but also equitable and resilient? At #EHMA2025, we are seeking the brightest ideas and cutting-edge research to help answer this question. If your work explores the financial foundations of health systems and innovative strategies for sustainable care delivery, this is your chance to share your insights with leaders across Europe and beyond. Health is a fundamental right, and equitable access to high-quality care depends on financially sustainable health systems. At the European Health Management Conference, decision-makers, health managers, and care professionals will come together to exchange ideas and best practices on navigating the economic factors that shape our health systems. The conference will also explore how to design financing strategies that enhance access to care and ensure long-term sustainability. High-level conversations on health economics and finance are crucial, especially as we face the challenge of making health systems more resilient and financially secure. Optimising spending, investing in innovation, and adopting value-based decision-making can improve care delivery while ensuring efficient resource allocation. Health managers, responsible for the financial sustainability of health systems, are in a key position to lead these important discussions. ‘Finance and Economics’ is one of the five tracks shaping the programme of EHMA2025, reflecting current trends in healthcare. If your research focuses on healthcare spending drivers, resource allocation models, or any related topics in health system finance and economics, we encourage you to share your findings with a wide audience of experts, policy-makers, and healthcare professionals. 📥 Submit your abstract by Wednesday, 15 January 2025, 10:00 CET. Long time coming!! Just want share our recently published paper, titled "Development of a prioritisation framework to aid healthcare funding decision-making in health technology assessment (HTA) in Australia: application of multi-criteria decision analysis", in Value in Health! During my time at Griffith University, I had the privilege of collaborating with an exceptional team (Son Nghiem, Mel Miller, joshua byrnes and Paul Scuffham) for this research. Our study focused on developing an innovative prioritisation framework using Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) to enhance healthcare funding decisions in Australia. Key Highlights: MCDA Framework: We created a comprehensive framework that integrates multiple criteria and stakeholder preferences to guide health technology assessments. Stakeholder Preferences: Our findings reveal that Australian policymakers prioritise 'Patient-Level Health Outcomes' and 'Social and Ethical Values' over cost considerations. Practical Utility: This framework offers a transparent and cost-effective decision-aid tool, supporting informed healthcare funding decisions and resource allocation. A huge thank you to the Centre for Applied Health Economics (CAHE) and all the participants who contributed to our preference survey and pilot study. Your insights were invaluable in shaping this research. I am incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to seeing how our work can influence healthcare policy and funding decisions in Australia and beyond. 📖 Read the full article here https://lnkd.in/eZcAuWEF #Healthcare #Research #MCDA #HTA #HealthcareFunding #GriffithUniversity #ValueInHealth #Collaboration #Innovation

What an unforgettable week at the "Leading Systemic Innovation in #Healthcare" programme at Imperial College! In a previous post, I shared insights from Days 1–3 https://shorturl.at/o7JWq. Now, here are the highlights from Days 4–5 (which included a fabulous group dinner at the Shard) as we began to explore the practical ways that systemic innovation can be brought alive within legacy institutional structures. Key Takeaways from our Inspiring Speakers for days 4-5 included: Susannah Howard (ICP Director, Suffolk and NE Essex ICS) - Start with WHY: Focus on outcomes for citizens and work back to the HOW and WHAT. - Use Jobs to Be Done to translate the WHY into tangible, citizen-centred goals. - Build a common #vision and supporting narratives that unites silos into a shared sense of WE and strengthens relationships, the lifeblood of systemic success. - Transition from hard to soft power, enabling distributed decision making, collaboration and mutual trust. - Address the shadow work: confront "uncomfortable truths" like institutional bullying and inequality to unlock belief and progress in delivering better care. Bob Klaber (Director of Strategy, Research & #Innovation, Imperial College Health Trust) - Forge partnerships with Life Sciences, Tech, and Academia to fuel innovation and invest in local and system-wide infrastructure. - Leverage healthcare as a community anchor to tackle inequalities, create jobs, and boost local economies. Chris Naylor (Policy Lead, Centre for Sustainable Healthcare) - Embed #sustainability into healthcare to address a planet in crisis. - Reducing unnecessary activities benefits care, costs, and the environment. - Green thinking sparks new waves of innovation. Bringing It Together The programme ended with teams presenting their own systemic innovation solutions, applying the Programme's new lenses to tackle their individual local/national healthcare challenges in a future oriented, multi-stakeholder and sustainable way. Congratulations to the speakers, Imperial staff, and international delegates who made this journey such an extraordinary experience! We leave with inspiration, tools, and hope - proof that a brighter, more equitable future for healthcare is within reach. Here’s to systemic innovation leading the way! 🚀 #healthstrategy #nhs #healthtransformation #healthsystems

Sometimes governments need to shake up a market to make it work better. Prof Susi Geiger and I looked at how two governments - Ireland, and New York State - experimented with healthcare markets to encourage adoption of digital health solutions. I am thrilled to announce that Sir Geoff Mulgan will be presenting at the upcoming Imperial College Leading Systemic Innovation in Healthcare programme starting on 18th November! In a world facing complex, interconnected challenges, creating holistic health systems that can serve both individuals and communities is increasingly critical—and incredibly difficult. Building such systems requires collaboration across diverse sectors, balancing local needs with national priorities, and creating frameworks that encourage both innovation and cohesion. The challenge lies not only in the vision but in the ability to drive collective action effectively at both local and national levels, ensuring coordination that enables sustainable, impactful transformation. This is why we are excited to welcome Sir Geoff Mulgan to share his unparalleled experience and insights. As Director of the Government’s Strategy Unit and Head of Policy at the Prime Minister's Office under former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Geoff navigated the intricacies of aligning high-level policy with ground-level implementation, a skill that is crucial for health system transformation.. His pioneering work in collective intelligence—the practice of tapping into diverse perspectives and insights to solve complex problems—brings an invaluable dimension to the task of uniting stakeholders around a shared purpose. In his session, “Turning Vision into Action: Enabling Collaboration and Systems Change in Healthcare,” Geoff will delve into the strategies and frameworks needed to overcome the barriers to effective collective action. He will address the unique challenges of coordinating between local and national initiatives, ensuring that actions at every level contribute to a cohesive, resilient healthcare system. By fostering collaboration between different actors and harnessing collective intelligence, Geoff’s approach provides a pathway for leaders to bridge divides, mobilise resources, and drive systemic change that truly benefits populations across all regions. Geoff’s expertise in both policy and grassroots innovation is especially relevant in today’s healthcare landscape, where the coordination between localised care initiatives and national health priorities often determines the success of systemic reforms. We look forward to an inspiring, insightful session that will empower our participants to tackle healthcare’s most pressing challenges with a practical, collaborative and action-oriented mindset.
