Canada’s approach to workplace wellbeing is inspiring! As Dr. Georgia Pomaki from Manulife points out, there’s been a positive shift toward prioritizing psychological health and safety, though progress is ongoing. From mental health training for leaders to enhanced benefits like $12,000 annually for mental health services, organizations are stepping up to close the gap. This growing emphasis on psychological safety recognizes that stress from unclear job roles or heavy workloads impacts both mental and physical health. By fostering environments where employees feel supported and valued, companies aren’t just protecting their people—they’re building a foundation for success. Canada’s example reminds us that workplace wellbeing is a continuous journey. https://lnkd.in/gfyFhP2B #WeekendWellbeing #MentalHealth #Leadership #WorkplaceWellbeing

Sunday's SRSR - Self Reflection Strengthens Resiliency Getting ahead of the trends is an opportunity to engage in resilient risk mitigation within workplace violence and harassment! How are you as a leader or employee contributing or educating yourself in the listed trends to support building resilient psychologically health and safe work places! What stood out for me was Trend #5 When we engage in inclusive language, both spoke and written, coupled with a trauma informed framework in how we do business we are creating a stable foundation in mitigation psychosocial risk and hazards and improving the wellbeing of the workplace culture. When we encourage and participate in lowest level conflict resolution, such as #workplace #mediation, we provide the parties an environment where they are empowered to have a voice, choice and be collaboratively a part of the #solution. Resolution of conflict is not only achieved when employees/leaders are courageous enough to voluntarily participate, we also can not ignore the opportunity to restore relationships. When relationships are restored this naturally has an impacted on the workplace environment, as the bystanders witness the dynamics of the relationships and whether the tension has been mitigated or escalated. We all have a part to play in building and sustaining psychologically health and safe workplaces! 🧘♀️ "Across the study’s large population, none of the other offerings — apps, coaching, relaxation classes, courses in time management or financial health — had any positive effect. Trainings on resilience and stress management actually appeared to have a negative effect." 💡 This discovery comes as no surprise. Organisations must prioritise wellbeing by improving job design, workplace culture, and organisational practices. Relying on band-aid solutions is not the answer; it's crucial to address the root causes of stress. Interestingly, Gallup's February 2022 study indicates that "fully remote workers are experiencing less burnout than all other remote-capable employees, while fully on-site workers have the highest burnout." 🚀 Addressing root causes of stress and/or introducing better flexible workplace policies is the way. #wellbeing #hybridwork #remotework #organizationaldevelopment https://lnkd.in/gJzGRKpB

Understanding Dysregulation in the Workplace Dysregulation, often associated with neurodiversity, can significantly impact productivity and overall wellbeing in the workplace. It refers to difficulties in managing emotional responses and maintaining focus, which can lead to stress and decreased efficiency. In my work supporting mental wellbeing and neurodiversity, I've observed that understanding and addressing dysregulation is crucial for creating a healthy and inclusive work environment. Some insights and strategies that can help are: Awareness and Education: Educating employees about dysregulation and its effects can foster a more empathetic and supportive workplace culture. Awareness can lead to better understanding and accommodation of colleagues who may struggle with these challenges. Why It Matters: Empathy and Support: When employees understand what dysregulation is, they are more likely to show empathy and support towards colleagues who may be struggling. This creates a more inclusive and cohesive team environment. Improved Communication: Awareness of dysregulation helps improve communication. Colleagues can use more effective ways to interact and support each other, reducing misunderstandings and conflicts. Reduced Stigma: Education reduces stigma around neurodiversity and mental health issues. It encourages open conversations and a culture where individuals feel safe to share their experiences and seek help. How to Implement: Training Sessions: Conduct regular training sessions for all employees about neurodiversity and dysregulation. Include real-life examples and testimonials to make the sessions relatable and impactful. Resource Sharing: Provide easy access to resources such as articles, videos, and workshops that explain dysregulation and offer practical tips for managing it in the workplace. Inclusive Policies: Develop and implement workplace policies that support neurodiverse employees, such as flexible working hours, quiet spaces, and mental health days. By focusing on awareness and education, workplaces can create an environment where all employees feel understood and valued. This not only enhances individual wellbeing but also boosts overall productivity and morale. Supporting mental wellbeing and neurodiversity is my passion. Through my work, I help organizations and individuals develop strategies to navigate challenges, create inclusive environments, and ultimately thrive. #WorkplaceWellbeing #Neurodiversity #MentalHealth #Dysregulation #InclusiveWorkplace #Productivity #EmployeeSupport

Thank you to our corporate partner community for joining us to close out our three-part webinar series for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Embracing a Culture of Mental Wellness in the APAC Workplace! Hosted in honor of World Mental Health Day in October, this webinar brought together company representatives in the APAC region who are experienced in elevating and embracing a culture of #MentalWellness in the APAC workplace. Thank you to the session moderator, Inder Bedi (of LinkedIn) for guiding this discussion. We also want to thank the panelists Ankita Banerjee (She/ Her) (of Randstad), Fu Wei (of Micron Technology), and Toyin O. (of Visa) for sharing their insights on how to embed mental wellness in company culture, embrace psychological safety in the workplace, and better understand the key challenges and opportunities in advancing workplace mental health. Takeaways from the conversation include: + When leaders and managers take responsibility for fostering psychological safety, it significantly enhances teamwork and cross-collaboration among employees. + There is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health, and it's okay to not be okay. When employees feel comfortable expressing how they feel and embracing their differences, they can bring their best selves to work. + Never underestimate the impact of storytelling, ERG communities, Mental Health First Aiders, reassessing your company benefits and accommodations, and leadership training in changing the narrative surrounding mental health in the workplace. This webinar series was planned by the Disability:IN APAC Council and was open to all corporate partners. 🌟 Mental Health Matters! 🌟 Creating a Safe and Supportive Workplace Environment In today’s fast-paced world, the mental well-being of our workforce is more than a luxury—it’s an essential component of successful organizations. And yet, mental health often remains relegated to the shadows, not discussed with the same urgency or transparency as physical safety. 👁️🗨️ Why Focus on Mental Health? - Consistency in Performance: Employees in good mental health consistently perform well, showing resilience in the face of challenges. They are the backbone of innovative, agile teams. - Reduction in Absenteeism: Addressing mental health openly can significantly reduce absenteeism and presenteeism, directly enhancing productivity. - Talent Retention: A supportive work environment enhances employee loyalty and reduces turnover, saving costs related to recruiting and training new talent. 🛡️ Building Blocks for a Mentally Healthy Workplace: ● **Open Communication Channels:** Create an environment where speaking about mental health issues is as normal as discussing a physical ailment. Open door policies and regular mental health-focused meetings can be transformative. ● **Training for Management:** Equip your leaders with the tools to identify signs of mental distress and to act appropriately. This training should focus on empathy, confidentiality, and resources available for support. ● **Employee Resources:** Offer comprehensive mental health resources such as EAPs (Employee Assistance Programs), counseling services, and regular check-ins. These should be readily accessible and well-advertised among the staff. ● **Work-Life Balance:** Encourage policies that promote a balance between personal life and work—flexible hours, remote working options, and necessary breaks promote mental well-being. ● **Regular Feedback and Recognition:** A culture of appreciation goes a long way in building self-esteem and a positive workplace atmosphere. Make feedback and commendation part of the routine. 🤔 Reflection Is Key As we continuously strive for excellence in workplace safety, integrating mental health is non-negotiable. Reflect on this: Are we doing enough to ensure our workplace is not just physically safe but also mentally supportive? Let’s pledge to make our workplaces bastions of safety, empathy, and productivity. Because when we take care of our employees' mental health, we are not just enhancing their lives—we are fundamentally transforming our organizational culture for the better. #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceSafety #HumanResources #CorporateWellness #Leadership Join the conversation! Share your strategies or experiences in promoting mental health at work. Together, we can make a difference! ✨
