Ahoy there HR! When you offer wellbeing interventions for workplace stress, many of your staff feel it’s like a box ticking exercise. Wellbeing interventions have their place; but it’s ironic when they’re routinely being offered as a solution to stress by a business that’s actually making work much more stressful than it needs to be. Statistics show that workplace wellbeing interventions have a negligible positive long term effect on stress when compared to control groups. What does have a long term effect are removing stressors and changing work practices. 💥 I’m hearing that people are often scheduled into back to back online meetings without the chance of a break in between, which is unhealthy. Employees find that many of these meetings, both online and in the office, are unnecessary and eat into available productive time, putting workers under more pressure. 💥 I’m hearing that rigid time tracking software which forces employees to account for every moment is stressful to constantly have to do. It feels like micromanaging, it eats into productive time available and is just another burden on the to-do list. 💥 I’m hearing that poorly integrated software drains productivity and adds stress by forcing employees to waste time on repetitive tasks. The way you can help reduce stress is to streamline all the repetitive, long-winded and de-motivating processes, and reduce the number of meetings right down to the minimum, allowing break time in-between. The payoff is that your workforce will feel less frustrated by tedious work processes, increasing productivity and staff retention. And they’ll take less time off work due to stress.
