A growing number of cities have begun to recognize the environmental, economic, and social benefits of #ebikes. As their sales continue to outpace those of passenger #EVs, policymakers and others are beginning to seriously contemplate ways in which they can make e-bikes affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. But they lack good data on the impacts of e-bikes, and many decision makers are looking for further proof points. That’s why RMI created the E-Bike Environment and Economics Impact Assessment Calculator for Cities. #Transportation electrification efforts have largely focused on replacing gas-powered cars with electric vehicles, which makes sense given US’ car-centric culture. Less attention has been paid to e-bikes, a much more affordable and accessible alternative. But that’s changing. Programs such as Denver’s wildly popular e-bike incentive program are showing that policy can be a powerful lever to accelerate e-bike adoption, for instance. To help policymakers, city planners, and others understand the financial, social, environmental, and health benefits of e-bike adoption, RMI created its E-Bike Environment and Economics Impact Assessment Calculator for Cities. #ebikes #electricvehicles #EVs #cityplanning #climate

In developing countries, household wealth determines car-ownership, but the the ownership of E-bikes, an alternative travel option, is another importnat factor. However, most transit and built environment variables contribute marginally to the prediction of car ownership. The findings suggest that E-bikes not only serve as a crucial alternative to cars but also complement limited transit services. https://lnkd.in/d3bqE7wV
