To reduce #transportation-related emissions, stakeholders must prioritize accelerating #ebike adoption. So argues a new report from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Department of Transportation, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which cites RMI's e-bike calculator as a powerful took stakeholders can use to quantify the potential emissions and VMT reductions from shifting to e-bikes and e-bike incentive programs at the local level. Accelerating a clean, equitable transition to electric transportation
About us
Transportation is vital to every aspect of our lives, connecting people, generating economic opportunity, and providing access to critical goods. It also contributes more climate-warming emissions and air pollution in the U.S. than any other sector, disproportionately impacting the world’s most underserved and vulnerable populations. Electrifying transportation is critical to halt this growth in air pollution, emissions-related illness, and death — and to avoid catastrophic climate change. RMI’s Carbon-Free Transportation team works to accelerate the pace and scale of vehicle electrification in the United States, India, China, and other locations.

Bermuda’s public transportation electrification efforts are already paying off: within one year of the arrival of these buses, the country avoided the need for nearly half a million liters of diesel fuel; saved $176,000 in fuel costs; and improved health and air quality. How did the Bermuda government make it happen? What challenges did they face and how did they overcome them? Most importantly, what can other countries learn from its efforts? In this interview, Joshua Simons answers these questions. #transportation #bermuda #climate #climatechange #electricvehicles #evs #publictransportation

As #EV adoption continues to grow, so do concerns about the electric grid’s ability to handle these vehicles’ charging needs, not only from passenger EVs, but also from electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. To help utilities and regulators understand what they can do to prepare the grid for #transportation #electrification, RMI released a report detailing how they can appropriately plan and invest in upgrades while also protecting utility customers from excess costs, informed by interviews with current and former utility commissioners, utility representatives, research organizations, and non-governmental organizations. #climate #EVcharging #EVinfrastructure #charginginfrastructure #charging

While electric 2/3 wheelers can reduce emissions and transportation costs while improving air quality and public health, most investors are reluctant to finance e-2/3w adoption due to asset risk, business model risk, and customer risk. Learn ways in which we can derisk e-2/3w financing in this article from Marie McNamara: #climate #transportation #electricvehicles #evs

🌞 We love a success story 🚌 The Government of Bermuda is driving towards a fully electric public bus fleet by 2030, with 70 electric buses already on the road as of 2024. This transition is bringing Bermuda closer to 100% electric daily transit operations—an impressive step forward for the island! These electric buses provide major economic and environmental benefits. The Bermuda Department of Public Transportation (DPT) has successfully replaced a large portion of its aging diesel buses, now offering high-quality, sustainable public transit to Bermuda’s residents. Every year, these 70 electric buses save over $400,000 in fuel costs, prevent 1,200 tons of CO₂ emissions (equal to the emissions of 600 cars), and avoid the need for 800,000 liters of diesel (equal to 12 transatlantic flights). 🚍💨 A recent RMI report explores the planning and implementation insights from Bermuda’s e-bus journey. It outlines the economic and environmental advantages, as well as the strategies and solutions that made this initiative a success—valuable insights for global transit electrification efforts. As #EV adoption continues to grow, so do concerns about the electric grid’s ability to handle these vehicles’ charging needs. Many stakeholders are worried that there’s not enough time to prepare the electric grid for new power demand, given that installations and upgrades can take years. Thankfully, RMI research shows that there are many steps regulators and utilities can take to expedite grid improvements. Our new report provides stakeholders a set of foundational building blocks that collectively create a strong foundation for utility planning around EVs, while protecting utility customers from excess costs. #transportation #climate #EVcharging #transportationElectrification #electricTrucks #chargingInfrastructure #cityPlanning https://bit.ly/3C0HKSZ
