Invest in Women to Accelerate Progress this International Women's Day Today we join the global community in recognising and celebrating the remarkable contributions of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Achieving gender equality, and supporting women irrespective of their choice of career or life path, is as crucial as ever for maintaining a healthy planet and building economies that are fair and prosperous. However, we still face a staggering $360 billion annual deficit in spending on gender equality measures. For that reason, the theme for the UN International Women’s Day 2024 is Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. By investing in women, we invest in a bright future for everyone. Extraordinary women have triumphed across the field of audio-visual technology, driving forward progress that has positioned us where we are today. Examples include Hedy Lamarr, who - in addition to being a much-loved film star - was the inventor of a radio communications device which is a component of present-day satellite and cellular phone technology. Radia Perlman is a computer programmer and network engineer who’s development of the algorithm behind the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) earned her the nickname ‘Mother of the Internet’. Marian Croak, currently Vice President of Engineering at Google, advanced Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies, which enables calls to be made directly from digital devices. These women are proof that investing in women yields extraordinary innovations. At Pufferfish, we understand the pivotal role that technology and education play in creating a more balanced and inclusive world. With its intuitive way of presenting complex topics and promoting social balance in learning, spherical display technology holds immense potential to make education accessible and engaging for all. It opens the doors to exciting STEM career paths and inspires learners of all ages and from all backgrounds. Let's continue to work together, inspiring the next generation of scientists, and dismantling the barriers that exist in the world of STEM. This International Women’s Day, I’ve been reflecting on my career as a woman in tech. My passion for innovation started at an early age with puzzles and Legos - all culminating in problem solving. The endless possibilities for unbridled creation fueled my imagination for many hours, and ultimately inspired my career in technology and STEM. Working in technology is so exciting because of the creativity involved in building and learning something new. We need the unique perspectives of women from all backgrounds to help make our industry - and the work we produce - inclusive and accessible to everyone. Over time, I've crystallized two core principles in my perspective on women in STEM: First, empowering women isn't simply about gender equality; it's a strategic necessity. The infusion of more women into the tech landscape is pivotal for a stronger and more inclusive future. The benefits ripple across sectors, propelling progress and innovation. Second, we must start from a place of empathy. As leaders, we should not only acknowledge the challenges faced by women in tech, but we must also commit to action. That action comes in many forms. Throughout my career, I have found mentorship to be a meaningful tool that leads to growth – for both the mentor and the mentee. Equally as important is sponsorship and advocating for those around you. These connections, rooted in empathy, leave a lasting impact beyond just the individual, but also reaching their family, community, and ultimately, the world. Empowering women and leading with empathy are the keystones for a thriving tech ecosystem. On this special #iwd2024 and throughout #womenshistorymonth, let's not only celebrate, but also renew our commitment to a future where we support and encourage girls interested in STEM, and where women in science and tech flourish.

This week, the 8th of March marks International Women's Day 🙋♀️ We celebrate this day as a recognition of all the women who have paved the way and to encourage future generations to have a more equal future. We as T&O are committed to gender equality. Four years ago, we launched the Women in Tech initiative, and since then we have developed different actions focused on changing the existing stereotypes in the STEM sector. 👩💻 Only 1 in 4 positions in the tech sector is held by a woman and this figure has remained stable for more than 10 years.* Data from Esade recent "Women in STEM" study in collab with #Santander. 🌍 The EU is leading the pathway toward integrating women in STEM and building a more inclusive digital future! In the rapidly expanding digital economy, women remain underrepresented—making up only 17% of tech sector jobs and just 20% of ICT graduates. To close this gap, the EU’s Digital Education Action Plan has set a concrete course to increase young women's participation in STEM studies and careers. 📈 Here’s how the EU is making an impact: - Through programs like Girls Go Circular, the EU aims to engage 40,000 young women by 2027, providing them with crucial digital and entrepreneurship skills needed. - Across Europe, ESTEAM events are sparking creativity and confidence among young women, helping them recognize their potential to innovate and make a difference in digital and technical fields. - The EU is developing new higher education programs in engineering and ICT, encouraging women to pursue these vital career paths. 🌟 At STEMAzing Women, we’re aligned with these EU goals by empowering young women in rural and remote areas, equipping them with essential STEM skills to help them break barriers, grow their confidence, and thrive in high-demand fields. ✨ Explore more about the EU’s commitment to gender equality and digital skill-building here https://lnkd.in/dU69taaD #WomenInSTEM #GenderEquality #DigitalSkills #EUActionPlan #FutureOfWork #STEMAzingWomen
