✨ STEMazing: Breaking Barriers for Girls in STEM! 🚀 The UNDP report "Empowering Girls and Women in STEM" highlights powerful insights that resonate deeply with our mission in the Erasmus+ STEMazing Project: encouraging young girls to pursue and thrive in STEM careers across Europe! 📌 Key Insights from the Study: 🔹 Girls typically develop an interest in STEM between ages 13-18 through school classes, hands-on activities, and exposure to STEM in media and museums. 🔹 Surprisingly, fathers emerge as the strongest supporters of girls in STEM, while traditional societal norms sometimes hold them back, particularly within family circles. 🔹 Stereotypes remain a challenge, but girls in STEM push back with resilience and confidence, stating: “We do not believe in stereotypes and say NO to them!” 🔹 Supportive environments—teachers, families, and friends—play a key role in helping girls stay in STEM education and careers. 💡 The STEMazing Project shares this vision by addressing barriers identified in the UNDP study and empowering girls to excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We: ✅ Create role models and mentors for girls in STEM. ✅ Offer engaging activities to spark curiosity and confidence early on. ✅ Foster collaboration between families, schools, and communities to challenge stereotypes and support girls' aspirations. 🌟 The study also reminds us that empowering girls in STEM isn't a one-day effort—it requires constant investment and collaboration at all levels: family, school, government, and society. The future depends on their talent, resilience, and passion to innovate! 🧬 Through STEMazing, we are building opportunities for girls and women to take those first bold steps toward STEM careers, contributing to a brighter, more inclusive future. 🌍 📣 Join us as we celebrate girls in STEM, challenge outdated norms, and open doors for the next generation of changemakers! 🌍 The EU is leading the pathway toward integrating women in STEM and building a more inclusive digital future! In the rapidly expanding digital economy, women remain underrepresented—making up only 17% of tech sector jobs and just 20% of ICT graduates. To close this gap, the EU’s Digital Education Action Plan has set a concrete course to increase young women's participation in STEM studies and careers. 📈 Here’s how the EU is making an impact: - Through programs like Girls Go Circular, the EU aims to engage 40,000 young women by 2027, providing them with crucial digital and entrepreneurship skills needed. - Across Europe, ESTEAM events are sparking creativity and confidence among young women, helping them recognize their potential to innovate and make a difference in digital and technical fields. - The EU is developing new higher education programs in engineering and ICT, encouraging women to pursue these vital career paths. 🌟 At STEMAzing Women, we’re aligned with these EU goals by empowering young women in rural and remote areas, equipping them with essential STEM skills to help them break barriers, grow their confidence, and thrive in high-demand fields. ✨ Explore more about the EU’s commitment to gender equality and digital skill-building here https://lnkd.in/dU69taaD #WomenInSTEM #GenderEquality #DigitalSkills #EUActionPlan #FutureOfWork #STEMAzingWomen

The need for women in STEM is greater than ever, says expert Women represent only 35% of the workforce in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), with the largest gender gaps in engineering and computer science. Christina DiMarino, an engineering professor at Virginia Tech, believes it is time to change this narrative and emphasizes the importance of starting STEM education early for women and underrepresented groups. The challenge: Gender imbalance DiMarino regularly observes the lack of women in STEM, but she also views it as a significant opportunity to develop future women leaders in these fields. "STEM environments have historically been shaped by men, which has made it difficult for these fields to become more inclusive for women and underrepresented groups," DiMarino explained. "There have been efforts to increase diversity in STEM, but building a truly representative community will take time." Why diversity matters in STEM "Engineers work to solve humanity’s critical issues, but if they lack diversity, it becomes harder to recognize and address the problems faced by different groups," said DiMarino. "More diversity brings a wider range of perspectives and experiences, which can lead to more effective solutions." Steps to increase women's participation in STEM DiMarino highlighted the importance of providing women with equal opportunities and resources, both in academic settings and in the workplace.
