📰 NEWS: Basel Area sets another record for startups in 2023 A total of 30 startups from the Basel Area received fresh capital from investors. According to the Swiss Venture Capital Report 2024 by the Startupticker.ch, the Kanton Basel-Stadt recorded 20 financing rounds last year totaling CHF 248 million, while the Kanton Basel-Landschaft recorded eight financing rounds totaling CHF 109 million. The République et Canton du Jura also registered two financing rounds. Three companies from the region also made it into the top ten largest individual investments. Basel-based Noema Pharma banked CHF 103 million from both existing and new investors, while BaseLaunch portfolio company Alentis Therapeutics, secured an investment totaling CHF 94 million. Nouscom AG benefited from an investment of CHF 65 million. There was a change of ownership at five companies based in the region last year. The Allschwil-based T3 Pharmaceuticals AG was acquired by Boehringer Ingelheim, while Vertical Bio in Basel, is now owned by the French firm Pierre Fabre Group. Herbonis 🇨🇭 was taken over by the Belgian Innovad SA. The Basel-based firm Clinerion Ltd was acquired by Citeline, while the new owner of VectivBio AG is Ironwood Pharmaceuticals. The growth in the Basel Area also reflects the general rise in investments seen across the biotechnology sector. Across Switzerland, a growth of 22% to CHF 492 million was recorded in this sector. What did we learn? 💪 Do what you believe in as that's what will carry you through the tough times. 👩💻 You don't need to be a technical expert to start an amazing company - you need to define the challenge and then find the right people with the right expertise to help you get there. 🤱 Babies are very good for honing time management skills. 👶 Being prepared is the only way forward in motherhood - and always prepare for the unexpected. 👯 Work hard to build a supportive network around you AND also around those that love and support you. 🙋♀️ Some VCs need to stop being prejudiced about female founders having kids. Get real folks. Life happens. 😇 And don't beat up on yourselves ladies. Being good enough is sometimes just good enough.
