🌟 Discovery Research at 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒🌟 The journey into cutting-edge advancements in oncology continued with Session 2: Discovery Research, chaired by two distinguished experts: Dr. Ajith Kamath, EC Member, Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA), and Dr. M. Sreenivasulu, Director, MNJ Hospital. This session brought to light some of the most promising innovations in cancer research and therapeutics. Dr Uday Saxena, CHAIR – Product Development, Bharat Advanced Therapeutics, expressed the need for a drug that can inhibit existing oncogenes and new mutations to avoid relapse. He stressed that cancer patients are waiting for new therapies and every delay is a life lost. Speaking on Bispecific Antibodies, Dr. Murali Ramachandra, CEO, Aurigene Oncology Limited, spoke on the company’s goal to engage in sustainable drug discovery with pharma partners. Dr. Benu Brata Das, Professor at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, spoke on research on mitochondrial DNA damage, cancer therapeutics, and the role of specific molecular pathways and inhibitors. Dr Murali Dharan Bashyam, Head, Lab of Molecular Oncology, BRIC-Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), outlined potential targeted therapies for cancer, focusing on oncogenes, tumour suppressor genes, and chromatin remodelling complexes. Harish Sharma from the Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd. highlighted the groundbreaking potential of Cervavac, the institute's cervical cancer vaccine. He emphasised that Cervavac marks a significant advancement in India’s fight against cervical cancer, offering both widespread accessibility and the promise of impactful public health outcomes. These discussions underscored the importance of collaborative research and the potential of these strategies to transform cancer treatment. By highlighting diverse therapeutic approaches, the session emphasised the critical need for precision and innovation in addressing complex oncological challenges. Happy to share that our incubated startup, UTOPIA THERAPEUTICS has filed two provisional patents, one for a first-in-class vaccine aimed at reducing cardiovascular risks and another for an innovative stem cell GPS platform. The vaccine developed by them is designed to target hypertriglyceridemia, a known risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Elevated triglyceride levels significantly increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. If successful in upcoming clinical trials, this novel vaccine could offer a transformative solution to controlling hypertriglyceridemia, providing a new therapeutic option for millions at risk.
