Château Latour, 1st Classified Growth, is located in the heart of the Médoc wine region, about 50 km north-west of #Bordeaux, where the legend of the Bordeaux vineyard was created. The heart of its terroir, the Enclos, dominates the Gironde estuary where the river and the ocean have brought it its geological complexity over the centuries and promote the mild climate every day. This privileged location 300 meters from the estuary gives it all its typicality and tempers the excesses of the weather, in particular the waves of cold and frost, as in 1991. The domain enjoys a double influence: • The proximity of the Atlantic brings the generous character of an oceanic climate; • The immediate proximity of the large body of water in the estuary protects against the potential cold at the start of the vegetative cycle and also allows the grapes to ripen earlier, which can prove invaluable as the harvest approaches. THE CYCLE Although the #Médoc climate is often capricious, which gives each vintage a real personality, the cycle is generally characterized as follows: WINTER A mild and humid winter with some advances in cold spells. SPRING A spring usually divided into two half-seasons, the first cool and humid, the second already hot but often rainy. SUMMER A hot and often humid summer until mid-July, then drier. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are generally more contrasted in August, thus accelerating the ripening of the grapes while maintaining their aromatic freshness.
