Leadership development programmes designed for women are tokenistic and not needed! Something our founder Gemma Stow was told recently. This belief undermines the very real challenges women face in the workplace. From navigating unconscious bias and systemic barriers to balancing the demands of career advancement with caring responsibilities, women encounter a myriad of unique and intersectional challenges that can hinder their confidence, self-development and professional growth. Given the unique hurdles women face on their career development journey, a one-size-fits-all approach to leadership programmes just doesn’t cut it. A tailored programme designed with women in mind creates a safe and supportive space for women to explore their leadership potential, develop critical skills, and overcome barriers that hold them back from achieving their goals and seeking out opportunities. Beyond individual development, women-focused leadership programmes play a crucial role in fostering a culture of inclusion and empowerment within organisations. By investing in the professional growth and advancement of women leaders, companies signal their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Furthermore, the ripple effects of empowered female leaders extend far beyond the boardroom, inspiring future generations of women to pursue their ambitions and challenge the status quo. When women thrive, entire communities benefit from their leadership, innovation, and contributions to society. Gemma's RiSE programme for visible leadership has helped many cohorts of senior women overcome the unique barriers they face, set the foundations for visible leadership and make their mark with influence and impact. Every single woman has a unique perspective that can be leveraged within their leadership teams, and with the right support can pave the way for a strong pipeline of female talent ready to follow in their footsteps. I was casually browsing through LinkedIn yesterday and was alarmed at the pattern. There is a simple test you can do by yourself. Go to the LinkedIn search bar, type "CIO," and browse the results list. Keep scrolling. What is it that stands out immediately? Not even 1 in 20 CIOs are women. As we celebrate International Women's Day, while numerous studies show the rising % of women leaders across industries and levels, much needs to be done. There are more considerable efforts across companies to hire women into leadership positions. However, long-term, lasting results can be achieved when those efforts are paired with internal efforts around developing leaders into mid-management and leadership positions. Titles can come later, and they will, but the efforts to build a leader take time and must be taken consistently. When succession bench strength is increased through focused efforts, developing leaders from within is easier achieved. This article from McKinsey & Company is an excellent example of why focused efforts are required to develop more women leaders. #datapreneursdaily #womenleaders

The leadership pipeline isn't broken - it's underfunded. Women aren’t leaving leadership roles because they lack talent. They’re leaving because they lack support. According to The Prosperity Project's 2024 Annual Report Card, 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝟭𝟬.𝟳% 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮. Think about that. In just two years, progress in advancing women leaders isn’t just stalling... it’s reversing. Why? Because women in mid- to senior-level roles often don’t have access to the same resources, coaching, or leadership development opportunities as their executive counterparts. When surveying my community, 𝟴𝟱% 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. These talented women are navigating high-pressure roles while balancing unique challenges - like competing expectations, overcoming bias, and managing burnout - all without the support they need to thrive. The result? High-potential women are overlooked, undervalued, and ultimately, leaving the pipeline. And that’s not just a loss for women - it’s a loss for organizations. Because a strong, diverse leadership pipeline is exactly what we need for fostering innovation, building resilient teams and driving long-term success - especially at this time of increasing complexity and rapid change. It’s time to rethink how we invest in leadership development. The leadership pipeline doesn’t need fixing. 𝗜𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴. 👉 How is your organization supporting women in the pipeline to senior leadership? #leadershipdevelopment #womeninleadership __________________ P.S. Leadership manifests in actions, not in titles. Suresh MJ, LHH Singapore’s Head of Operations & Delivery, shared his thoughts on how he thinks organisations and communities can better support women to navigate the “continuum” of leadership throughout their lives on this International Women’s Day. Suresh shared 4️⃣ key pillars that he felt would play a critical role towards supporting women leadership: 🔸 Creating Opportunities: Establishing mentorship and sponsorship programs is crucial. These initiatives should connect women with seasoned leaders who can offer guidance, share knowledge, and open 🗝🚪doors to new opportunities. Additionally, organizations should ensure equitable access to leadership roles, actively seeking to fill positions with qualified women, especially in fields where they are under-represented. This involves reviewing 📋📊and adjusting hiring and promotion processes to eliminate biases and create a level playing field. 🔸 Empowerment through Education and Training: Offering tailored leadership development programs that address the unique challenges women face is essential. These programs can include workshops on negotiation, public speaking📢, and strategic thinking 🤔, as well as training on how to effectively manage work-life integration. Empowering women with the skills and confidence they need to assume leadership roles is a critical step in supporting their leadership journey. 🔸 Motivation and Support Networks: Cultivating an environment that celebrates successes 🎉👏 and provides support🤝during challenges is key. This can be achieved by establishing networks and forums where women leaders can share experiences, challenges, and strategies for success. Encouraging the formation of peer support groups can also provide women with a sense of community and belonging, which is vital for sustaining motivation and resilience. 🔸 Going Beyond: Breaking the Barriers: Encouraging women to aim high and take on challenging roles is essential for breaking the glass ceiling. However, it's equally important to equip them with the tools 🛠 to navigate and dismantle these barriers. This includes fostering resilience, teaching strategies to handle discrimination and bias, and encouraging women to advocate for themselves and others.
