Partnering with organisations to build inclusive cultures, allies and close gender gaps

About us

Organisations are missing out on some of their best leaders… Because they fail to notice who they already have, or key players don’t showcase their talents. This is especially the case with female workers who often demonstrate great potential as workplace leaders but are simply not seen. Research suggests that visibility plays a huge part in career progression and we know women don’t promote themselves as often as men; this poses a huge problem. Self Promotion and Female Leadership Through a powerful and bespoke blend of consulting, training and leadership coaching, we help your organisation to recognise the talent you already have; to inspire, attract, develop and empower female employees with the potential to be great leaders within your workplace. With this support, female employees strive for next level promotions and showcase themselves and your company. This is achieved through purposeful networking and building solid connections. Ultimately, your organisation benefits from increased performance/confident female talent within senior leadership roles within your workplace. To attract, identify, develop and retain women leaders is essential to achieve a thriving culture, performance and productivity; to be a major organisation in your industry. By creating a workplace where self promotion is encouraged, many potential female leaders step forward for recognition and development. They understand the importance of visibility and promotion for career progression and their organisation’s role in gender parity. Female Leadership in Your Workplace If you are potentially losing your best talent... > Now is the time to get a plan in place to support your female colleagues with self-promotion/self-advocacy. > Now is the time to increase gender parity in your workplace, by reducing the gender pay gap and motivating female leaders in your workplace. RiSE leads to promotions, new opportunities and most importantly new working relationships which we all know can lead to so many more possibilities. If you know a woman that works in housing and could benefit from building her confidence around being more visible, or learning new techniques to network and raise her profile and owning her expertise within meetings to build stakeholder relationships then get in touch to hear more about whether RiSE could support their development needs and help you retain and develop a valuable member of your team. #careerprogression #genderpaygap #talentdevelopment https://lnkd.in/ec7mfCsm

The power of networking and coaching combined! WE have just wrapped up the latest RiSE cohort for women in housing and are now securing the remaining spots for the January 2025 group coaching programme.  One participant said; "When I first decided to join the RiSE programme, I was seeking a way to boost my self-esteem and build lasting confidence. I had reached a point where I knew I was capable of more, but I wasn’t sure how to unlock that potential within myself. Little did I know that this journey would not only help me grow but also shift my mindset in ways I never anticipated. I often struggled with accepting compliments or acknowledging my own accomplishments. Praise, instead of feeling empowering, would make me uncomfortable. It was like there was an invisible barrier stopping me from truly owning my achievements. I now have tools to help me reframe my thinking, shift my perspective, and, ultimately, increase my self-esteem. The impact on my self-esteem has been profound. I no longer shy away from positive feedback; in fact, I now find myself accepting it with gratitude and pride. That shift in how I view myself has extended beyond just compliments. I now approach challenges with a sense of confidence I didn’t have before. I trust my abilities more, and I feel more empowered in both my personal and professional life. If you are considering joining the RiSE programme, do not hesitate, take the leap, you will not regret it and will gain so much.” It was such a wonderful group of women that have made new connections with each other across the housing industry.  And it was my privilege to be on their visibility journey with them so that they can learn more about their own limitations getting in their way; start to believe in themselves so that they can showcase their talent and take some control over their career progression. RiSE leads to promotions, new opportunities and most important new working relationships which we all know can lead to so many more possibilities. Thank you to each and everyone one of you for showing up for yourselves and your organisation! :) And as you can see from the photo self promotion and visibility can be fun I promise!  Seema Bhogal Natalie Eden Katrina Morris Claire Wilby Laura Hope Ellie Billany Courtney Gauld Olivia Tarpey If you know a woman that works in housing and could benefit from building her confidence around being more visible, or learning new techniques to network and raise her profile and owning her expertise within meetings to build stakeholder relationships then get in touch to hear more about whether RiSE could support their development needs and help you retain and develop a valuable member of your team. #rise #visibilitymatters #selfpromotion No More Hiding Ltd

Is networking your thing? Women in housing I want to hear from you! Networking is a key part of visibility. Within your organisation you can build relationships, showcase your skills, and get your name on the radar of decision-makers and that can give you that all important edge. The power of networking isn't just about promoting yourself internally though – it's also about expanding your horizons externally and opening doors to new opportunities in and outside of work. This year through my RiSE programme for women in Housing, I have seen many incredible women begin to understand how visibility can help them achieve their career goals. Self promotion comes naturally to some more than others so we have to find a way of being visible that is comfortable for us.  I have been chatting with senior leaders from across the housing industry about the importance of exposure to networking opportunities for women's career development.  The barriers and best practice. So, this poll is for all the women in housing. I’d love to know what you think holds you back from networking. I would love it if you could tag a fellow HA colleague too! Maybe you are not sure where to even start with networking or there doesn’t seem to be the time or support from your organisation that encourages it. Maybe you don’t feel that you have the skills which knocks your confidence or you are worried your employer will think you are looking for a new job?  Let me know below and if you have anything additional to share please do message me.  I really do want to hear from you! 🎊 2025 is your time to RiSE! 🎊 If you or your organisation needs support in this area to make sure women can make the most of their skills through visible leadership and the power of networking, please get in touch and I can tell you more about the RiSE framework that has proven success to build strong pipelines of female talent so that you can get more diversity around those decision making tables. #RISE #nomorehiding #visibilitymatters #careerprogression #genderpaygap #talentdevelopment No More Hiding Ltd

  • Are you overpromising and underdelivering when it comes to career progression? Our founder Gemma Stow has been chatting with a lot of women across industries who feel demotivated having been asked what they want for their progression and career development only to never hear anything said about it again…until the next appraisal 12 months later! You're not always going to succeed in every opportunity you go for, but imagine a pathway for your career that crumbles often and you have to relive the disappointment on a monthly, sometimes weekly basis…soul destroying right? Glimpses of opportunities, eagerly anticipated chances to expand on skill sets, climb the corporate ladder, and achieve career aspirations…all snatched away at the last moment. It’s guaranteed to leave you feeling disillusioned, disengaged, and utterly demotivated. As an employer, and line manager, you risk so much by over promising and under-delivering on career progression opportunities: 💫 Erosion of trust 💫 Low productivity and engagement 💫 Poor talent retention 💫 Damage to company brand Following through on promises of supporting employee career progression is not just a matter of goodwill – it's a strategic imperative for organisations looking to attract, retain, and empower top talent. Employees that feel valued, engaged, and motivated to excel will in turn ensure your company thrives. If you are looking to support your female leaders with career development opportunities and attract more women into your organisation so that you can build strong pipelines of talent, get in touch. #careerprogression #rise #talentretention

  • Hope is not a strategy for talent retention. In an ideal world all our achievements and wins would be recognised, but relying on someone else noticing may not get you very far, and as a result women can: ✴Stay in roles that they are overqualified for ✴Feel demotivated and undervalued ✴Look at new organisations for a better career path Having worked with housing associations over many years, it is clear that a dual responsibility to talent retention by both the individual and organisation is the best way to avoid high attrition rates, loss of expertise and experience. Supporting women to self-promote, own their expertise and seek out opportunities for career development will give them the recognition they deserve and the confidence to not only raise their profiles but elevate the organisation too. Our RiSE programme for visible leadership is making a huge impact across the housing sector and women from multiple associations are coming together to play their part by leaning into self promotion, and understanding the importance of visibility. If you are an organisation or individual interested in the benefits of visible leadership for career progression so that you can build that all important strong pipeline of talented employees ready for the next level - Get in touch with Gemma Stow and she can have a chat about how visible leadership will benefit your company. #selfpromotion #rise #visibilitymatters

  • Vulnerability is growth Some might think that working with teenagers is not for the faint hearted, and it certainly has its challenges! When our founder Gemma Stow decided to coach an Under 13 football team we weren't convinced she knew what she was letting herself in for! The main reason she agreed to it was that the team of 16 (who her son plays for) had only one girl in there - and she is a brilliant footballer - and Gemma wanted to support her to stick with the team and not only play with the girls. She is the only female coach in the whole club! Being a footie coach is so far out of Gemma's comfort zone, but she threw herself into it and learned how much she enjoyed it.  Not knowing what she was doing yet getting stuck in any way and learning with every step.  She found it so much fun.  And that is something Gemma measures all her successes (both work and personal) by...how much fun she has. We spend so much time doing the things that we know we are already good at.  So, taking on this challenge was daunting and exciting all at the same time, a bunch of teenagers (as some of you will know) are never shy about being brutally honest, however she is glad she took the risk…it is paying off!! We encourage everyone to have a think about something they would really like to do but are feeling uncertain about, and then just go for it!! We learn so much about ourselves when we step out of our comfort zone, challenge ourselves and embrace the unknown. It is something we continually encourage all the women we work with to do, because the impact on your self belief and confidence is huge! When you achieve something you think you can’t - anything is possible! Let us know about something you have done recently that pushed you to be vulnerable? #comfortzone #vulnerability #challengeyourself

  • Gemma Stow was recently invited to the Leeds University Business School to run an interactive masterclass called ‘Self-promotion is not a dirty word: The Importance of Visibility for Career Progression’, and it was such an amazing day and huge thanks to Joanne Garrick for organising it! Here are some of the things we covered: ➡ Understanding the importance of owning your career and being visible for career progression. ➡ Identifying the barriers and limitations that can hold us back. ➡ Starting to create your own self promotion and visibility action plan and how to implement and take action. To ensure that all participants could share their thoughts and feelings around visibility and self promotion, we used anonymous slides for live polls. This safe learning environment gives employees the opportunity to learn from each other, and begin to understand how they would use their new found confidence to get control over their careers and clarify what they really want from work. It is great to see how this type of strategy to create a safe space results in everyone feeling comfortable enough to be vulnerable and share their own experiences and fears.  Vulnerability always creates change. To everyone who came along, it was so amazing to meet you all, and don’t forget to let us know when you have completed the action you committed to carry out! Here is some feedback; “Thanks for having me! My biggest takeaway from the session yesterday was the realisation that self-promotion is not only necessary but also a vital skill to master in today's competitive landscape. I learned that it's essential to reframe my mindset and view self-promotion as an opportunity to showcase my skills, achievements, and values, rather than seeing it as bragging or being arrogant. I'm excited to apply this new perspective to my personal and professional life, and I'm looking forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on my career and relationships “My biggest takeaway was the importance of reflecting on my own values and owning my expertise. It was a reminder that understanding what we stand for and recognising our unique skills can significantly impact our growth. Additionally, the workshop highlighted the value of putting ourselves out there and making meaningful connections with others. 🙂” If you would like to find out more about how self-promotion can help retain your top talent, and support your leaders into taking the next opportunity, get in touch. #selfpromotion #visibilitymatters #careerprogression

  • What holds you back from being visible at work? Have you ever had that feeling where you want something so badly or you are desperate for change but you keep telling yourself that you will do something about it when you feel more confident. And the more you wait for that confidence, the more you hear little miss self doubt whispering in your ear…“you can’t do this” or “you are not good enough” Sound familiar? Well, you’re not alone, we all hear those self-doubts from time to time and the important thing to remember is thoughts are not facts! The misconception is that we need confidence before we jump, when in fact the confidence comes after the jump! Pushing ourselves to do something different, and stepping out of our comfort zone is where confidence is found.  I have spent many years working with organisations on this sort of thing - supporting their top talent to embrace self-promotion and lean into visible leadership.  It’s why we have brought together a number of women from Housing Associations to work on confidence building and visibility for career progression. With the right support and tools, anything is possible, and the change you really want is achievable… …ready to jump? I’d love to share with you the impact my RiSE programme for visible leadership is having, and has had for many years across the housing sector. Get in touch to learn more about how prioritising women staying with the organisation, upskilling themselves for that next level and proactively taking charge of their careers can benefit your organisation when it comes to strong pipelines of talent, committed employees and role models for the future. #visibilitymatters #visibleleadership #selfpromotion

  • As a Housing Association are you supporting your top talent when it comes to being visible? I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the fabulous Sarah Roxby, Executive Director from WDH about her career journey and how important visibility is for confidence and progression. If you want to take a listen and let us know your thoughts…catch up here - Sarah shared her insights on how being more visible by grabbing those project opportunities, attending events, networking and sharing your wins can make all the difference when it comes to getting the recognition and progression you want and deserve. As women we tend to give too much focus to negative thoughts, allow the setbacks to keep us hiding, and often see self promotion as a dirty word.  Well, it is time to RiSE and step into the spotlight…we are making waves right now and having a huge impact across the housing sector with a collaborative programme that gives women a safe space to develop the skills and mindset to seek out those opportunities, own their expertise and raise not only their profile but that of their Housing Association. The RiSE programme for visible leadership is a win-win for all. So, if you can think of women in your company who are currently holding back from showcasing their experience, are not taking control over their career or are avoiding next level opportunities and you'd like to discuss putting them into the next cohort of RiSE in January 2025 to help them achieve their potential, reduce recruitment costs and attrition then get in touch for more information. #selfpromotion #visibleleadership #careerprogression

Time to RiSE! This week saw the return of my RiSE programme, with another incredible cohort of women from WDH, Yorkshire Housing, Places for People and Anchor. I am so excited to be embarking on a journey with these ladies as they take time for introspection and clarify what they really feel and want from their careers and how they will go about achieving it. RiSE provides a safe space to go deep, and get to the root of what is holding you back from the progression you seek. It provides the tools and support to turn away from limiting self beliefs and step into your own spotlight where you own your expertise, and fully understand and harness the power of self-promotion. Visibility matters- when it comes to taking control of your own career development, RiSE allows you to embrace visible leadership in a way that is authentically aligned with your own individuality. If you can think of women in your company who are currently holding back from showcasing their experience, are not taking control over their career or are avoiding next level opportunities and you'd like to discuss putting them into the next cohort of RiSE to help them achieve their potential, reduce recruitment costs and attrition then get in touch for more information. • Does the Summer Break offer an opportunity to reflect on your career and help you get clarity on what you want from future progression opportunities? Have your say ⬇ #careerdevelopment #careeropportunities #rise

As I settle back into a more normal work routine after the summer break, it feels like a new year for me (not just the kids). Down time with friends and family really helps you get clarity on what you want from the future, what are your goals, what opportunities do you hope to go after and how will you achieve this in your current role. The summer leave window is often a key time for staff to take annual leave and assess their personal and professional priorities, many industries (particularly Housing Associations) are seeing that female staff in particular, come back to their role in September wanting clear career progression and development opportunities but often don’t get the opportunity to communicate this with confidence. If your organisation wants to prioritise women staying with the organisation, upskilling themselves for that next level and proactively taking charge of their careers so that your company can benefit from strong pipelines of talent, committed employees and role models for the future, get in touch.
