Monday Motivation: Go out of your way to do something GOOD today! It might be offering to pay for a stranger's meal, volunteering at one of your favorite charities, making a surprise visit or call to a loved one, or bringing a gift to someone at a nursing home. When we DO good for others it makes not only the one receiving that goodness feel good but it also makes US feel good! And, remember, what goes around, comes around, so let's all spread some GOODNESS today! #DoSomethingGoodToday #SpreadGoodness #SurpriseSomeone #Charities #WhatGoesAroundComesAround #ServantLeadership

It's the last day of Small Charity Week and there has been heaps of great noise about the amazing work that small charities do on the frontline in the UK. There are, of course, lots of brilliant things we can do to support the small charities that often get overshadowed by large national charities, but one of the most impactful, in my opinion, is to be a Trustee or NED of a smaller organisation. You really get to understand the inner, complex workings of a charity, you get to see how your time, knowledge and input helps move the organisation forward, you know that you are making a difference to (usually) vulnerable people who really need a helping hand from a charity, and you can hopefully take some weight off or be a sounding board for an overstretched Chief Exec (thank you to my own generous trustees Lara Sonola, Tracy Cherrington, Karrie Liu (CMath FIMA), Richard Smuts at Age UK Wandsworth for all their help!). I often get asked why I volunteer my time (I'm a trustee at the wonderful BLINDAID and a newly-appointed volunteer NED at Beyond The Page) when I already work in the voluntary sector and when I must be already at capacity in my own charity role. Yes, I'm not going to lie, I do have a never ending to do list (who doesn't?), but it's really important to me to use some of my precious personal time to support my community and to support my peers. As well as all the skills they can't afford in consultants, small charity Boards need people who understand/work in charities on them too, to help provide a balanced perspective about the operational reality of running a charity and how that marries up with strategic objectives. So this is a shout out to anyone on here who isn't already a trustee to go have a look at Reach Volunteering and apply for a board role this weekend. Pretty please 💕 #smallcharityweek #volunteeringmatters https://lnkd.in/ecYZB7UY

Today's #SmallCharityWeek topic is one I love, STRATEGY. Yes I am a total geek! Having supported many a small charity with their strategic planning through Pilotlight and now as a freelancer, I know it isn't easy to know where to start. The jargon can be so off putting and it can feel so complicated. But it doesn't need to be. Vic Hancock Fell has shared her steps on how to write a strategic plan, offering a simple approach to get you started👇 #SmallCharityWeek #Charity #Planning #Strategy

Have you wanted to donate to charity but didn’t really know where to start or who to trust? With over 60K charities in Australia the options can feel truly overwhelming. HOWEVER - last week, I came across a genius way forward! I’ve recently learnt about an incredible Charity Matching Platform called Seedling Giving founded by my friend Kylie Wallace 🌱 🌸 They provide personalised, vetted and trustworthy charity recommendations for individuals and businesses. Making the process of giving simpler and safer. You simply complete a short questionnaire and then it reveals three high performing small to medium sized charities to consider supporting. Nothing like this is currently available. Complete the questionnaire to get started at seedlinggiving.com.au

Charities - the set and forget myth No doubt all persons responsible for charities (board, management etc) are aware that there is an ongoing obligation to review the governance and operations of the charity to ensure it remains eligible to be registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. For those that need a refresher or are looking for a way to document this, the ACNC has a self evaluation form that can be completed and signed by the board. It's a good way to meet your obligations... but ultimately ensuring all responsible people are invested and across the activities of the charity is an even better outcome. Build this process into your year end and make it a habit #charities #philanthropy https://lnkd.in/gEPU-guB
