Employee engagement holds immense potential for growth and positive change in the workplace. Gallup estimates that a more engaged workforce could bring significant economic benefits, with the current lack of engagement costing the global economy $8.9 trillion or 9% of global GDP. Only 23% of employees feel engaged in their roles, while 62% are less engaged, and 15% feel disconnected; this highlights an opportunity for improvement, especially in light of the “great resignation,” as many employees reevaluate their careers. Now is the time for #organisations to focus on fostering engagement to build a more motivated and resilient #workforce. Engaged employees perform better, experience less burnout, and stay longer with their organisations. As engagement takes centre stage in today’s workplace, exploring and implementing impactful strategies to enhance it can create a stronger, more committed team and help organisations thrive. Align employees' work with their passions and values - To boost engagement, organisations should seek to understand the core values that resonate with their teams, aligning their mission and goals in ways that foster a deeper sense of belonging. Recognising how individual roles contribute to a shared purpose can enhance commitment while supporting diverse interest groups and build community and connection across the organisation. Create a balanced work environment - Organisations can improve engagement by creating a work environment that balances stress and enjoyment. Offering flexibility for employees to explore new tasks allows them to discover what motivates them. Providing greater autonomy in their roles fosters creativity, while mentorship programmes build confidence and support. When employees feel empowered and valued, they are more likely to stay engaged. Cultivate time affluence - Enhancing employees' sense of time affluence is crucial for engagement. Organisations should reward employees with time off in addition to financial incentives, especially in response to pandemic-related stress. Implementing tools to limit after-hours emails helps employees disconnect from work, ensuring they have ample time to recharge and pursue personal interests. As employers grapple with maintaining employee engagement, understanding the right levers to prioritise is crucial. The mismatch between what leaders think is important and what employees actually need underscores the necessity for guidance. By taking steps to foster engagement, organisations can mitigate the risks of turnover and build a more committed workforce. https://lnkd.in/gShPzK9J #career #careers #workplace

Fostering Employee Engagement Across a Multigenerational Workforce In today’s evolving workplace, fostering engagement across multiple generations is essential, particularly for employees in their 50s, whose needs and priorities differ significantly from their younger colleagues. The Michael Page Talent Trends 2024: The Expectation Gap report, which surveyed 12,940 people across the Asia-Pacific region, highlights the challenges organisations face in bridging this expectation gap. Understanding and addressing the specific drivers of job satisfaction for those in their 50s is crucial to maintaining a productive and loyal workforce. For employees in their 50s, management style plays a pivotal role in job satisfaction. This age group values transparent, supportive leadership that fosters trust and respect. Additionally, strong relationships with managers and co-workers are critical, as these employees often seek a collaborative and harmonious work environment where they feel valued and connected. Another key driver is belief in the company’s leadership team. Employees in their 50s want to feel confident in the direction of the organisation and trust that the leadership is making decisions aligned with long-term success. They are less concerned with career progression and more focused on organisational stability and values. Hybrid and flexible work arrangements are also a priority for this demographic, who often juggle personal and professional responsibilities. Flexibility provides them with the balance they need to stay committed and engaged at work. Finally, a clear set of company values and well-defined goals are essential for fostering a sense of purpose. Employees in their 50s want to work for an organisation whose values resonate with them and where their contributions are aligned with the company’s overarching objectives. By focusing on these factors, organisations can close the expectation gap and retain their experienced employees, ensuring long-term success and a motivated workforce.
