I recently had the privilege of attending Our Dalmia Team PAN India HR Meet at Delhi's Hotel Metropolitan, under guidance of our CHRO Udaiy Khanna & Sales & Manufacturing HR Head, Mr. Roopesh Tiwari The two-day session was both insightful and practical, providing us with valuable tools to enhance our HR practices.
Day 1: Competency-Based Interview Techniques
- Our focus was on mastering the art of competency-based interviews. Mr. Roopesh, with his 30 years of HR expertise, emphasized the importance of finding the right candidate for the right job.
- Competency-based interviews assess specific skills, behaviors, and attitudes by exploring a candidate’s past experiences. This approach is crucial in today's organizations because it allows for:
- Better Fit for the Role: Understanding how candidates have handled relevant situations helps ensure they align with the role’s requirements.
- Data-Driven Decisions: This technique relies on concrete evidence rather than intuition, making the hiring process more objective and reducing biases.
- Retention and Growth: Selecting the right candidates from the start reduces turnover and supports team stability, which is essential for organizational growth.
- Alignment with Business Strategy: As organizations expand, it’s vital to have employees who contribute effectively to business goals, and competency-based interviews help achieve this.
- We explored techniques like the STAR approach (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to ask better behavioral questions, moving away from theoretical or hypothetical scenarios. Through role plays and real-world examples, we learned how to define role competencies and drill down with questions that lead to data-based decision-making.
Day 2: One Dalmia, One HR, One Experience
- The second day was dedicated to aligning regional HR practices under a unified approach across PAN India.
- Our leaders, Mr. Roopesh and Mr. Udaiy Khanna (CHRO, Dalmia Bharat), introduced a comprehensive HR booklet that outlines standard processes and best practices to be followed nationwide.
- This session reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to supporting and empowering their HR teams, ensuring consistency and excellence across all regions.
I'm truly thankful to Mr. Udaiy Khanna and Mr. Roopesh for investing in our growth and skill development. The knowledge and techniques we've gained will undoubtedly enhance our daily work and contribute to our organization's success.
