Healthcare workers are at disproportionate risk of workplace violence, and its prevalence is likely underestimated in literature because past studies have mostly used surveys that rely on recall of past events.
A new study in a 50th anniversary issue of The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety overcomes this barrier by studying incident reports, finding that nurses and patient care assistants are exposed to 1.17 aggressive events per 40 hours worked.
