Usher’s New Look (UNL) has joined with IBM to provide free career training centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and professional skills through IBM’s SkillsBuild platform. This collaboration aims to benefit thousands of UNL’s underrepresented youth learners nationwide, equipping them with vital technological know-how for future workforce success. According to a press release, the partnership enhances UNL’s existing leadership, financial literacy, and career-readiness curricula by integrating customized IBM SkillsBuild AI coursework tailored to learners’ levels. Courses include resume writing with AI, building chatbots, and mastering AI prompting. UNL, an organization founded by singer Usher Raymond IV in 1999, supports under-resourced youth, will integrate IBM’s resources into programs like its Disruptivator Clubs, Leadership Academies, and the 2024 Disruptivator Summit, which is expected to put on the nation’s largest youth conference this July in Atlanta. Next goal: Complete the final course “𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” Throughout the course, I learned numerous fascinating topics, including: - Developing innovative solutions with the full potential of Generative AI tools - Exploring challenges and ethical considerations associated with using Gen AI and ways to mitigate these risks - Utilizing AI for application design and architecture, code refactoring, bug detection, and program optimization One amazing outcome is that after completing this course, I have started developing an innovative project using Gen AI that will be a core component of DjangoVision. My special thanks to all the instructors for creating such an awesome course that inspired me and filled my mind with lots of new ideas that I can now transform into reality! Especially to the project lead Rav Ahuja and primary instructor Ramanujam Srinivasan. I’m looking forward to applying my gained knowledge, curiosity, and unstoppable willingness to explore, collaborate, and develop innovative solutions with new opportunities and people! It’s totally fine to admit when you don’t have all the answers. In tech, many software engineers feel like they have to know everything. They worry that not knowing something might make them look bad. But admitting you don’t know everything can actually make you seem more trustworthy and can encourage learning. One of our past students recently shared a great news that he got promoted soon after taking our class! Yay! 🎉 But then they told me they were nervous about their new job because they didn’t have all the answers. 💥 Here’s the deal: as an engineer, you don’t have to know everything right away. Your job is to problem solve and find the answers as you go. ⭐️ It’s totally okay to say, “I don’t know the answer right now, but I’ll find out and let you know.” 🌈 Successful leaders don’t always have all the answers either. They’re just really good at asking good questions and figuring things out. So, remember, when you come across something you don’t know, see it as a chance to learn and grow.
