Usher’s New Look (UNL) has joined with IBM to provide free career training centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and professional skills through IBM’s SkillsBuild platform. This collaboration aims to benefit thousands of UNL’s underrepresented youth learners nationwide, equipping them with vital technological know-how for future workforce success. According to a press release, the partnership enhances UNL’s existing leadership, financial literacy, and career-readiness curricula by integrating customized IBM SkillsBuild AI coursework tailored to learners’ levels. Courses include resume writing with AI, building chatbots, and mastering AI prompting. UNL, an organization founded by singer Usher Raymond IV in 1999, supports under-resourced youth, will integrate IBM’s resources into programs like its Disruptivator Clubs, Leadership Academies, and the 2024 Disruptivator Summit, which is expected to put on the nation’s largest youth conference this July in Atlanta. 📚 Knowledge is Power 💡 Throughout my career, I’ve always believed in the importance of continuous learning to enhance my skills and stay ahead in an ever-changing world. Every two years, I’ve engaged with executive education programs from renowned institutions like RGU, Harvard, Stanford, and LBS. These experiences have helped me grow, adapt, and thrive in my career and business. After a 4-year focus on building and expanding the business, I feel it’s the right time to refresh and hone new skills in one of the most transformative areas of our time: AI and Data Science. I’m thrilled to announce that I’m joining the NUS School of Computing – ranked #3 globally for AI and Data Science– for a one-year program that will not only sharpen my knowledge but also help me harness AI as a strategic enabler for my career and business. This step is a reminder to myself and others: while daily operations and hectic schedules can consume our attention, it’s important to look beyond the horizon, embrace new opportunities, and invest in our growth. 🚀To my network: I encourage you to pause, reflect, and consider what skill or knowledge could transform your future. Growth begins with curiosity. Here’s to the journey ahead! 🚀 #AI #DataScience #LifelongLearning #Leadership #Innovation #FutureFocused

In all the excitement and worry over what AI and other tech will bring, what it promises to deliver to us and our companies, we've forgotten the very differentiator that makes us unique: Our humanity. Through it all, the people stuff, the durable skills (as America Succeeds and its incredible leader Tim Taylor so rightly calls them) will be what matter more than ever. This opinion piece from The NY Times hits the mark. BAM. What's got me positively activated and puzzling is not just how we effectively train our emerging professionals in soft skills, but how we measure progress and mastery in these critical competencies. #people #softskills #youngprofessionals #training
"Now is the time for leaders, across sectors, to develop new ways for students to learn that are more directly, and more dynamically, tied to where our economy is going, not where it has been. Critically, that involves bringing the same level of rigor to training around people skills that we have brought to technical skills." Check out this incredible article by Maria Flynn and Aneesh Raman on the importance of #DurableSkills in an increasingly AI-driven workforce: https://lnkd.in/d5pbP9js

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of representing the Global Student Forum as the Asia-Pacific representative at the UNESCO IESALC & IBM's regional consultation on creating an AI Competency Framework for Higher Education. The consultation brought together an incredible mix of students, educators, advocates, and tech experts from across the globe, all working to establish a framework that will make AI in higher education ethical, inclusive, and truly global. The experience was both enlightening and inspiring, reaffirming the importance of cross-sector collaboration in shaping an AI-ready future for education! Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Student-Centered AI AI in education isn’t just about the technology itself; it’s about how we use it to create supportive, inclusive learning ecosystems. We emphasized that AI tools must align with the diverse needs and aspirations of students from various cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds. It’s crucial that AI adapts to local contexts rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all solution. 2️⃣ Lifelong Learning & Adaptability AI competency extends beyond students. Educators and institutions also need continuous support and training to keep up with evolving technology. The consultation highlighted the importance of fostering lifelong learning for both educators and learners, ensuring AI remains beneficial for everyone involved. 3️⃣ Cross-Sector Collaboration We heard from experts across industries about the importance of collaboration between education, the private sector, and civil society. Companies like IBM play a vital role in shaping ethical AI standards and ensuring these innovations are inclusive and impactful for future generations. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important conversation, especially Bosen Lily Liu for her exceptional facilitation. This is just the beginning of an important journey towards an AI-literate, empowered student community worldwide. Excited to see how our collective efforts at the consultation will translate into tangible impacts for students everywhere! #UNESCO #IBM #GlobalStudentForum #AIinEducation #HigherEd #StudentAdvocacy #AsiaPacific #EdTech #AICompetency #EducationInnovation #FutureofEducation #GlobalEducation

"Our community prefers a personal touch." 🤝 👋 Every higher ed professional has said this about AI – and they're absolutely right! The personal connection between staff and your campus community is invaluable. 💫 ✨ That's exactly why leading universities are embracing chatbots! 🤖 By handling routine questions 24/7, AI gives your team back precious time to focus on what matters most: those meaningful, complex interactions that only humans can handle. 🙋♀️ Think about it: 💭 Your team's expertise focused on supporting students in crisis 🎓 More time for in-depth alumni mentoring connections 🤝 Personalized graduation planning sessions 📋 Complex legacy gift discussions 🎁 Deep engagement at reunion events ⚡ The irony? Our university partners find they're actually providing MORE personal attention, not less. Their secret? 👀 Letting technology handle the routine so humans can focus on the remarkable. ✨ For my commencement and alumni relations colleagues: How are you balancing efficiency with that essential personal touch? Share your thoughts below! 💡 💪 #HigherEd #AlumniEngagement #Commencement #StudentSuccess #HigherEdTech

Just One Question - Talked to a wicked-smart CEO today and she said "BK, I ask people lots and lots of questions every day, but there is only ONE question that I truly care about and that is "what have you learned today?" Forever. The Martha Stewarts, Warren Buffetts, Oprah Winfrey's, Bill Gates, Suzy Welch's and ALL incredibly successful people have been saying the same thing with regard to learning every day and for life forever! However. The world is now a MASSIVELY different place and accelerating at "light speed." Marketing, for example, is the new software engineer, with top computer science and software engineering graduates from elite schools now struggling to find good jobs. The point? We must be more absorbant and ambidextrous than we've ever been or we WILL be left behind -- almost unrecoverably so. All the feels and smiles. I love seeing good people I've known for years post their new credentials and new skills via edX, Coursera, or wherever -- they will be the successful ones in this new era of AI, excellence in story telling, and technology everything. Extreme intentionality. Learning and evolving isn't going to happen by itself, it requires extreme intentionality. Comfort, after all, is where everything and especially life-long learning go to die. The brightside. There has never been a better time to learn and to be alive -- opportunities for learning and success are there for the taking like never before; build a plan and execute and never stop! #WeGotThis #LifeLongLearning #AI #Technology #CareerManagement #Leadership #LFG
