Over the course of my career in EdTEch I've been blessed to work with hundreds of mission-driven colleagues who are striving to make a difference in the lives of learners. Education is a calling that brings forth our collective brilliance, creativity and compassion in service of students and educators.    I have been observing the urgent need for grounded insights at the volatile intersection of education, language, science, and AI. Education is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities at a moment in history when the future of our planet faces escalating threat.    Students must prepare for a world that is changing rapidly. From the effects of climate change to disruption of career norms from rapid advances in AI, a deep understanding of language, science, and technology is vital for shaping our individual and collective future. The explosion of capabilities from AI Large Language Models has put a premium on the overlap of language arts and technology. The new field of prompt engineering demands a level of creativity and precision from future knowledge workers as technology poets who will shape the evolution of AI applications in every facet of our lives. Without expert critical guidance from a new generation of skilled creators and practitioners, the large models could end up training us, instead of the other way around. The responsible evolution of these technologies will ask a lot from us, and students need to be ready.    I am excited to share that I have formed Mindful Systems Consulting to focus on this potent intersection of language learning, mathematics, science, and AI. I began my career in scientific research and aerospace and was drawn into special education and EdTech. Drawing on years of product experience spanning Scholastic, Rosetta Stone, Pearson Virtual Schools and High-dosage online tutoring, I am dedicating my time to advise and consult for institutions and companies who are trying to make a difference at this critical time.    I look forward to engaging with many of you in the coming months!   https://lnkd.in/ekW-Vkas

I have known Avni for almost ten years and I am super glad (and not surprised) that her customer-focused approach remains unchanged. We were fortunate to have Avni Savant speak to our teams at G2 India. The session was inspirational, and we learned a lot from her. Avni has a wealth of experience, and we are grateful for the valuable insights she shared with us. During the session brilliantly moderated by Aravind Raj, we discussed several topics and gained a few key takeaways: ⚡ Creating an environment that supports a "fail fast" mindset fosters innovation, and consistent leadership support is essential. Interestingly, this is something that Roger Valade aligns with strongly, and we are just in the middle of an innovation sprint. :) 🧠 We explored areas where AI can be implemented to solve product use cases. Avni stressed that we don't need to reinvent the wheel; instead, we should learn from companies that have successfully adopted AI. The most doable areas for AI implementation are to improve developer productivity and summarize insights and discoveries. 📊 We discussed how squad-specific goals (OKRs) can be integrated with the company's larger goals. For example, we can analyze if improving our product's onboarding experience impacts the adoption rate, and understand if the release was successful. Avni emphasized the importance of using data to make feature iterations and prioritization decisions. 💬 We discussed the significance of product development teams being close to the customers and leveraging customer interviews, and feedback from pre-sales, sales, and support teams. 💗 Lastly, Avni highlighted the importance of self-drivenness and having a clear point of view in one's career. She noted that this proactive approach is valued and appreciated. We are truly grateful to Avni for her time and lessons!

#productunconference(#theproductfolks ) - It was one of the best product conferences I participated in recent times. Thanks to Suhas Motwani and the team for organizing such a wonderful event. 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 from the conference is, a shift in my perspective on AI and its applications in the workplace. After hearing directly from Tech & Product leaders at Swiggy, Clevertap, Cred, Zepto, and others, I've started to rethink how AI can be leveraged in professional settings. It’s worth investing and studying the AI in detail but don't rush to execute without a clear plan. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁: many of us are experiencing FOMO, leading to overthinking and attempting to force AI/ML use cases into our product or business roadmaps, even when there's no clear need or defined strategy. It's a classic case of "𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀" or "𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺."

"Am I being exploited as a PM?" . . Asked one of the members in a community that I am a part of. He has an experience of 1 year and joined a new organization as a PM. His manager asked him to go through all the products/sub-products and identify key metrics that should be tracked for each product. And, this guy thought that this is some low-level work that his manager has given him. And, (probably) he is being exploited by making him do such low-level work. I was amazed at the thought-process and couldn't understand how to react. Here are a few myths about PM that I feel need to be busted: Myth 1️⃣ PM is NOT some entitled position and it definitely is NOT the CEO of the product. Don't get into PM with the expectations that you will have to just give orders and people will be at your service. Myth 2️⃣ As a PM, you have to get the work done from others which is the most difficult part. For that, you may need to do a lot of things which you may not want. So, be prepared for it. Myth 3️⃣ In reality, no work is low-level or high-level. It's a work and it has a larger objective. Focus on the objective. You may or may not like it is a different thing altogether. If you don't like it, that's your problem. You will realize this as you gain more experience. Myth 4️⃣ The engineering and design team usually don't report to PM. So, if you think you will just tell them and they will do, sorry but you are wrong. You will have to learn to convince without authority. Myth 5️⃣ Product Management is not just about launching new products and features. It's about tracking them, understanding competitors & industry, planning marketing & growth initiatives, and many more things. MadCap Software, Inc. Don't you have anyone in the sales team with knowledge of all the products you have (Flare, Central, IXIA...)? As I am exploring a tool for my org now, I requested for a demo. There are options to request for demo separately for each product but there is no option to request for a discussion or demo that could help me explore all and choose the right one with a rep. Then I randomly requested for one and got a quick response. She wanted to discuss only about the product she works for. I replied with my requirements - "I want to explore all your offerings with a representative to quickly finalize." She didn't respond. How do I go about it?

Love this snippet from Lenny's Newsletter: Three traits that make you a great PM to work with: 1. Raise difficult issues without being difficult to work with 2. Bring up important topics without drawing importance to yourself 3. Remember that you are in charge of getting decisions made, not making the decisions yourself Early on when I was an IC PM, I focused on blocking as many things as possible for my team, do as to be a good PM in helping the team retain focus. Over time, I realised “without being difficult to work with” is an very important skill - much more so when one needs to gain influence in an organisation. Much like how PMs are expected to have empathy for their users, PMs should also have empathy for their stakeholders in any decision. Examples: 1. If u want to block a request, is there a reasonable alternative to the other party in fulfilling their needs? Or some guidance as to when their request could ever be done? 2. If you’re removing a current feature cos of lack of significant usage, how can the existing users be served in alternate ways, or be convinced that this “extra convenience derived” is actually not that much even if taken away? Thinking this from your stakeholders’ angle will help one go a long way in “not being difficult to work with”!

A while back, a fellow product manager and I did an analysis into an edtech competitor's strategy. We did the : User journey mapping, Feature comparison analysis, User engagement metrics evaluation This competitor success stemmed from three fundamental pillars: Group and private classes: 👥🎓, Flexible scheduling: 📅⏰, User-paced curriculum: 🧭📖 What really stood out? Their platform demonstrated that minimalist design could coexist with complex functionality. 🤔 While we often focus on eye-catching colors and feature placements, their clean design prioritized usability. This meant seamless learning and easy access to tools, fitting both B2B and B2C needs with a custom approach. 💡 Minimalism may seem counterintuitive in a feature-heavy space, but it can align perfectly with user goals. By stripping away unnecessary elements, users navigate essentials like scheduling, materials, and tracking with zero distractions. 🎮 Also despite the minimalistic design, they integrated subtle gamification features that encouraged consistent participation, such as: 🏅 Progress badges 🔥 Daily streaks 💰 Cash-back incentives ✨ Their platform demonstrated that minimalistic design doesn’t have to mean a lack of user motivation. Thoughtfully incorporated gamification can align with a straightforward interface to boost user engagement and transform a straightforward learning tool into an engaging, user-centric experience. 📝👨‍💻 P.S: its not a one size fits all solution, but a nice approach.
