GuildHE and UKADIA today launch an important new report which addresses the challenges of defining creative graduates’ value and evidences the significant contribution creative institutions make to their regions, economically and culturally ➡️ https://bit.ly/3y4TlyHCreative UK
This is a timely report on one of our genuinely world class sectors, the value of which has not been well understood by some politicians. It's a time to be hopeful. I've worked with a number of creative institutions and I can't speak highly enough of the way they develop and support students so that their talent can flourish.
Leeds Conservatoire's employability toolkit, developed to demonstrate what transferable skills students may acquire as part of their specialist qualifications and how beneficial those skills are to potential employers, is highlighted in this new GuildHE and UKADIA report: https://bit.ly/3y4TlyH

Chime Mali Chime.
While celebrated as a CSR/ESG effort, what they failed to address was how jarring the sounds became, especially those used on the NSEWL (or otherwise internally known as Mainline).
Perhaps I'm already accustomed to the actual Chime Mali Chime (Chan Mali Chan, a local folk song, used as a chime) on the CCL that I don't find it as jarring, but other people who've complained to me would think otherwise.
What's wrong with using the same old, iconic "Ding Dong" which immediately makes people relate it to SMRT? If you hear that Ding Dong anywhere you'd instantly recognise it. Not this excruciatingly long and annoying noise though.
Purported to help visually-impaired (VI) commuters know which bound arrived. Would you know the difference?
Perhaps because I'm still affected by jarring noises (even though I try to tolerate it), you might still see or hear me cursing at the speakers, especially on ML because of how unacceptably loud the chimes are.
What you don't know, is also what the company doesn't know, and sometimes doesn't bother to know.
Hitting the high notes for arts! 🎭 We're delighted to share that #SMRT received a Patron of the Arts Award 2024 (POAA) from the National Arts Council (NAC), in recognition of our outstanding contributions to the development of arts in Singapore last year. 🙌
SMRT was nominated by Singapore Symphonia Company Limited and The TENG Company. 🥰 We collaborated with The TENG Company to introduce melodic chimes in SMRT trains and over 70 SMRT stations, to enhance the journeys of our commuters, particularly the visually impaired. 🎶🚆
The awards ceremony was graced by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Edwin Tong SC, as the Guest-of-Honour. ✨ Stellar Lifestyle President, Mr Tony Heng, was present to receive the award on behalf of SMRT. 👏
We're honoured to be recognised for our continued efforts in supporting the local arts scene and deepening its social impact through our public transport nodes! 🌈

Cultural assets are levers of growth, as they generate employment and local development and define our values and heritage and the environment in which we live in. Instead of promoting conservation, some governments -and Greece is high up in the list- are showing an ever declining commitment. One wonders why, when promising results i.e. the National Trust or the European Historic Houses show we are in the wrong direction.

On April 5, 2024 I will be at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, British Columbia, to take part in a conversation with Azim Shariff on "Has Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lost Its Way?" This is a type of conversation organized and supported by the Heterodox Academy, a unique academic event that pairs two scholarly experts who disagree on a topic in a public discussion of that topic.
Not a traditional lecture or debate, these events aim to show that open inquiry, critical thinking, fair mindedness, and constructive disagreement can help us answer questions and solve problems.

RSA Why Creative Corridors and what does it mean?
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy emphasised: “We want to put rocket boosters under the creative industries, helping them to create more opportunities in ALL parts of the country and give people from all communities access to art and culture”.
The UK is a creative superpower. It is home to 55 creative clusters identified by the DMCS, alongside an additional 700 creative microclusters which have been the focus of policy intervention. However, this economic growth isn’t reflected equally nationwide. London and the M25 collectively account for 68% of the UK’s creative industry’s gross value added (GVA) totalling £71 billion in 2019.
A recent government Industrial Strategy Green Paper places the creative industries among the top sectors driving national growth. Creative Corridors is an exciting new policy concept designed to harness the enormous potential of creative industries to drive growth across all four UK regions. There are already examples of successful experimentation with 'corridors’ in the UK – such as the Northern Creative Corridor and the Thames Estuary Production Corridor which we can learn from.
I recently had the pleasure of reading "A Life Worth Living: Finding Your Purpose and Daring to Live the Life You’ve Imagined" by Kevin John Delaney.
This book is a profound exploration of how we can bridge the gap between the life we are living and the life we truly desire.
Here are some key lessons from the book:
- Embrace Your Purpose: Discovering and embracing your true purpose can
transform your life, bringing passion and fulfillment.
- Live Boldly: Don’t settle for a half-lived life. Dare to pursue the life you’ve
always imagined.
- Learn from Adversity: Kevin’s journey from a near-death experience to a life
of purpose teaches us the power of resilience and determination.
- Inspire and Be Inspired: Through personal stories and the experiences of
others, the book encourages us to find inspiration in everyday moments.
- Make a Difference: Strive to live an extraordinary life that not only fulfills
you but also makes a positive impact on the world.
One of the best parts about this book is that the chapters are short, mostly less than 5 pages, making it very easy to read and digest.
I highly encourage my everyone to read this inspiring book. It will challenge you, motivate you, and most importantly, help you find your path to a more meaningful life.
As a gesture of appreciation and commitment to lifelong learning, we gifted a copy of this book to every participant at our recent Bali Global HR conference (see my previous post for more details: https://lnkd.in/g8v-_7nV).
Let’s continue to inspire and support each other in our journeys toward living a life worth living.
Here’s how you can get a copy of the book: https://lnkd.in/gpRn8Gte
Happy reading.
