🎬 Ever felt overwhelmed about starting a venture at the intersection of science and technology? The path of a #scipreneur is uncharted and filled with questions. But what if I told you that the uncertainty is where the adventure begins? For me, the uncertainty is what made it compelling, although I didn't know it since the get-go. There are no set paths, just a broad understanding of what can make your product a success or a failure. The lack of information will be solved over time, as universities introduce courses and incubators improve the information they give to young entrepreneurs. However, there's a lot of missed opportunities. One significant gap in our ecosystem is the lack of a tight-knit community. Imagine the impact if universities and incubators not only shared knowledge but also fostered a network where experiences and strategies are exchanged freely. Seizing opportunities, however, is not something that will be black and white and written on an entrepreneurial book. From securing grants to bootstrapping or finding that niche market that instantly embraces your innovation—the journey to success is anything but linear. It's a mix of strategy, luck, and the collective strength of your network and team. Getting started is always the hardest. - How crucial are patents? - What are the implications of sharing your ideas early on? - How to navigate equity and investment? - When and how to seek funding? - Evaluating the market size and your idea's viability? The array of questions is endless, each adding a layer of complexity to the decision-making process. 5 learnings of a tech entrepreneur ↓ From deeploi cofounder Philipp Hoffmann’s article in the StartupValley Magazine last week. 1. Stay curious -The tech world changes rapidly. -It pays to recognize new trends ASAP – and act on them. -Ask questions rather than trying to answer them. Even the “silly” ones. -And no matter how long you’ve been in the game, you can always learn. 2. Be bold -Don’t let the skeptics dissuade you. -Your crazy ideas are often the ones with the biggest wins. -As a leader, it’s your job to encourage your team to take risks. -This is how you foster an atmosphere of innovation and creativity. 3. Always connect -A strong network is worth more than gold. -It pays to stay in contact and chat with them regularly. -They will bring you new ideas, attitudes and opportunities. -And the more diverse they are, the better. Diversity = varied perspectives. 4. Trust your gut -Especially when building your product. -It’s easy to be swayed by various stakeholders. -Then you lose sight of your original idea, your North Star. -Take a moment of introspection to uncover and follow your intuition. 5. Product is # 1 -There's always room to develop and improve. -Even if that means letting go of previous ideas you had. -Pay attention to trends, speak to your customers, work with your team. -This is the only way to stay relevant and make the best possible product. Here are key takeaways from the event in the hope to inspire other startup founders: - New Perspectives Matter: Presenting to a fresh audience helps founders like myself gain unique insights. Hearing outside feedback on deCH.at revealed areas to improve, especially in storytelling, allowing audiences to connect with the vision more deeply. - Refining Storytelling: For the Imagined team, storytelling was essential in communicating their pivot from virtual tours to career navigation. Each presentation opportunity helped them strengthen their narrative—a key skill for connecting with users. - Insightful Q&A: Engaging with the audience during Q&A sessions revealed new angles on our product strategy.
