The ideal client proposal is just like an application to an accelerator. This is a new insight I gained recently. #1. The startup experience showed itself. Over the years, I’ve submitted dozens, if not hundreds, of applications to accelerators. Through this process, I’ve learned to see beyond the standard questions. Take, for example, a question from the Y Combinator application: "How long have the founders known each other, and how did you meet?". If you respond with, "We met two years ago at a networking event," it sounds nice, but that’s not what the question is asking. What they really want to know is how long you’ve worked together, how complementary your skills are, whether you’re a reliable team, what you’ve done together, and if you can achieve more. If you lack shared experience with your co-founder, you need to think about how to present yourselves to demonstrate your seriousness. #2. The ideal proposal answers the ‘Why’ at every point. A few weeks ago, while crafting a customer proposal, I realized I was essentially filling out an application to an accelerator, only this time, I was asking the questions myself. I put myself in the shoes of a founder choosing an agency to develop their product, and suddenly, everything became clear. The standard "About Us" section immediately disappeared, because what's the difference that we have a well-described company overview? Most of them are good. What is the difference that we are working with this technology stack? We are not the only ones. What really matters to the founder is: - Why are we the right fit for this product? - Why will our expertise have the most significant impact on creating this product? - Why are we recommending this specific set of technologies? - Why do we believe the Time & Material model is the best approach for developing this product? - Why can the founder trust us? - Why should the founder be confident that we can build their product now, even if we haven’t built something similar before? - Why do we want this project? Are we genuinely interested in the product, its market entry, and its long-term success? Thoughts?

Key Things I Look at When Evaluating Startups Following a previous post about what I look for in AI startups—and the number of questions it generated—I decided to expand on my general approach to evaluating any startup I consider investing in. Over the years, I’ve refined these high-level points to focus on high-potential investments that align with my strategy. 1. Alignment with Investment Thesis & Strategy Purpose: Starting with a clear investment thesis saves time, as it allows me to filter out startups that don’t fit our core sectors, values, or preferred stage. 2. Portfolio Compatibility Purpose: Avoiding conflicts with current portfolio companies ensures that each investment strengthens rather than competes within the portfolio. 3. Market Ecosystem and Growth Potential Purpose: I prioritize markets with clear growth potential, avoiding stagnant sectors with limited opportunities, to ensure there’s room for scalable growth. 4. Team and Innovation Complexity Purpose: A strong, experienced team is essential. I look for genuine technical expertise rather than superficial use of buzzwords like “AI” or “algorithms,” which are sometimes used to catch investors’ attention without real depth. Authentic innovation supports a sustainable competitive edge. 5. Purpose of Disruption and Positive Impact Purpose: Investing in companies with a mission to disrupt or improve lives aligns with a future-focused strategy and often attracts resilient, motivated teams. 6. Investor Landscape and Deal Flow Origins Purpose: Understanding the origin of the deal and the involvement of trusted co-investors can serve as an added quality check. Investors with “skin in the game” signal confidence in the opportunity. 7. Comparison with Other Top Cases Purpose: Conducting a “beauty contest” with other top cases in the funnel helps me prioritize the highest-potential startups, enhancing overall portfolio quality. 8. Term Sheets and Valuation Validation Purpose: Ensuring fair terms and valuation balances risk and aligns with both my financial goals and the startup’s stage. 9. Traction and Product-Market Fit Purpose: Early traction provides evidence of demand and scalability, helping me assess the startup’s growth potential and market alignment. 𝗜𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀? Public data indicates that globally, about 100 million startups are launched each year. However, only a tiny percentage of these receive significant funding. According to Startup Genome, around 1 in 12 startups receive Series A funding, generally the first significant round of venture capital funding. For startups reaching the $3 million funding milestone, the percentage is estimated to be around 0,8% of all startups. Only 1.7% of those companies reach a significant financial event such as an IPO or acquisition. So, the chances of becoming the next Salesforce, Zoom, or OpenAI are incredibly slim. To put it in perspective, it's more likely to become a professional athlete and participate at the Olympic Games. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀, 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀? From my experience working with many start-ups and scale-ups, I’ve observed that many people treat their day-to-day operations like a form of art. They believe it requires unique experiences and a one-in-a-million idea. They think successful companies are built on artistic inspiration. 𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴! What these successful companies have in common is a scientific approach to growth. Their success isn’t based on any form of art, nor should yours. The key to making more companies successful lies in science. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 is a starting point, but we need much more. We need to come together as a community and build further on revenue architecture concepts to bring the success rate to an acceptable level. In my previous post (https://lnkd.in/g-h4wtsv) I started to unfold one of the biggest challenge and opportunity at the same time in the health tech ecosystem, the cooperation between corporations and fresh innovators, startups. There are several factors and pain points which make the majority of these collaboration uneffective. For a corporations (including investment companies), the usual major concerns are the followings: 🔥 Before the smallest investment of time and money they want to be sure that the startup can execute 🔥 During the cooperation, the startups usually lose interest, speed, which could lead burnout in short term 🔥 If trouble happens, zombie companies remain in the portfolio - what can a corporation do with them? One of the possible, rarely, but more and more commonly known solution is the tracktion methodology, and it’s physical projection, the tracker him- or herself. Tracktion methodology is the management of growth, with the focus on the value and execution.
