Moving towards a more sustainable future with solutions from nature? We need to rethink our food systems and introduce new products and solutions in order to meet the worlds' major challenges when it comes to food. To transition to a more sustainable global food system, we need concrete solutions that will allow us to address issues such as: ✅ reducing methane emissions from cattle’s digestive processes, ✅ introducing plant-based alternatives to meat, ✅ promoting food production that demands less land and makes room for biodiversity, ✅ countering food waste, ✅ exploiting side streams from food production ✅ replacing traditional fertilizers and plant protection products with biologically based solutions. “Bioosolutions are based on nature's own tools and can be applied on an industrial scale. And in this way enzymes, pheromones, fermentation, biorefining as well as bacterial cultures can be used to drive the transition from a fossil-based towards a more bio-based economy,” says Jeppe Juul Petersen, Regional Team Leader in CEE for Food and Agriculture. Queen Máxima learned about making upcycled food the new normal at Foodvalley Can you imagine eating vega Filet American made from a residual product from a brewery? Or that protein for human consumption could be extracted from pasture grass? Dutch start-ups are full of smart upcycling ideas for circular agriculture and food production and are also developing the technologies to produce these promising solutions in practice. These efforts are crucial because current food production worldwide is depleting our planet. Marjolein Brasz, CEO of Foodvalley emphasizes the urgency of change: “By 2050, the food system must provide food security for 10 billion people worldwide. This is only possible if we reduce food and agriculture waste and extract more nutrients from agricultural and food industry by-products.” Queen Máxima visited Foodvalley and its partners NoPalm Ingredients, Wageningen University & Research, Grassa | Unlocking the full potential of Grass | Biomass, GreenInclusive, revyve and Greencovery to learn more about the most current initiatives to mainstream upcycled food and ingredients within the realm of circular agrifood, and what steps Foodvalley and its partners are taking to achieve this. Just call it protein. I ducked into this talk at the last minute and am so glad I did. What an incredibly knowledgeable panel from Synthesis Capital, Good Food Institute Europe, Anthesis Group, Forum for the Future and FAIRR Initiative. Our food system needs help to become more secure for future generations and reduce emissions. They agreed the approach must be diverse and inclusive, ensuring farmers are not shamed or diverted from what they are good at. The only real enemy here is factory farming and over reliance on a small number of proteins. We need to mix it up and keep it affordable. #innovationzero #altprotein #foodsecurity #netzero #plantbased #carbonneutral #sustainability #sustainable

🎉 Today we celebrate Nutrition Day, a crucial date to reflect on the importance of healthy and safe eating for all. 🌱🍎 In the LIFE NextFumigreen project, we are dedicated to improving food security and protecting biodiversity through the use of plant-based pesticides in greenhouses. This approach not only preserves our crops, but also protects the health of consumers and the environment around us. 🌍🛡️ Our commitment is firm: to train and sensitize farmers in the use of sustainable alternatives to fumigation, thus ensuring a safer and more nutritious food chain for all. 🙌 This project, led by FUMI-HOGAR, in collaboration with B&B ASESORES, Centro Tecnológico Tecnova, Comercial Química Massó , BrioAgro España and FINNOVA FOUNDATION (EU), is 60% co-financed by the LIFE Programme of the European Union. It lasts four and a half years and aims to improve food security and biodiversity. In addition, it contributes to the awareness, training and professionalization of farmers in the use of biopesticides for fumigation. 🌾🐝 📎 Find out how we're transforming agriculture: https://lnkd.in/dmihDkqf LIFE Programme CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency #LIFEAmplifiers #EUGreenDeal #naturalenemies #naturalfumigants #pesticides #agrochemicals #LIFENextFumigreen #Sustainability #Innovation #Finnova

PSA: It doesn't matter whether you are working to solve #fuel, #energy, #textiles, #builtenvironment, #feeds, #foods, #plastics or a myriad of other linear fossil based products, as you design out waste, you design in #biology. Fundamentally, the #naturebased #circularbioeconomy not only cycles materials and reduces waste, it #addsvalue through both #process and #product towards a #restorative and #regenerative model. This starts with a #holistic view - unifying the biological economy across #fish, #farm and #forest. Please - take a few minutes to read this summary of European Protein Strategies. We are committed to driving a circular economy and promoting sustainable food systems. Our innovative approach revolves around the remarkable black soldier fly (BSF) larvae, a game-changer in the realm of protein production. Over the past 5 days, we have witnessed the incredible journey of these tiny yet mighty larvae. From microscopic eggs, they have undergone a remarkable transformation, growing exponentially and efficiently converting organic waste into a valuable protein source. The process began with the careful collection and preparation of organic waste materials, which serve as the perfect breeding ground for the BSF larvae. As the larvae hatch and begin to feed, they work tirelessly, consuming and breaking down the waste with remarkable efficiency. What sets BSF larvae apart is their ability to thrive on a wide range of organic waste streams, including agricultural residues, food waste, and even manure. This not only helps to reduce waste and mitigate environmental pollution but also creates a sustainable and renewable source of high-quality protein. As the larvae mature, they undergo a remarkable transformation, accumulating a significant amount of protein and essential nutrients within their bodies. This protein-rich biomass can then be harvested and processed into a variety of products, including animal feed, aquaculture feed, and even human food supplements. #CircularEconomy #SustainableProtein #BSFLarvae #FoodSystems #Innovation
