Paaspop is a Dutch music festival, and considered the "kick-off" of the Dutch festival season. This year, roughly 115.000 visitors attended the event. What measures are taken behind the scenes of such mass events to make sure they are both fun and safe for festivalgoers? Experts of DISSS attended a workshop of the SAFE-CITIES project to give external feedback on early versions of prototypes developed by the SAFE-CITIES consortium. SAFE-CITIES aims to protect public spaces, which also includes mass events such as music festivals. Have a look at the video below to see how measures developed within SAFE-CITIES were implemented at Paaspop! If you are visiting an event or festival over the coming weeks, which safety measures can you spot? Have you ever wondered how much solutions to improve public safety are needed during mass events, like music festivals? 🎶🔒 The SAFE-CITIES project, which aims to support the protection of public spaces by delivering the Security and Vulnerability (SVA) framework supported by an interactive set of tools, cooperates with many security stakeholders. We catch this opportunity and learn from their experience and expertise. One of the SAFE-CITIES meetings took place in May 2024 in Eindhoven in connection with Paaspop 2024 – a music festival held annually in the Netherlands. This year, that event gathered thousands of participants who enjoyed performances by their favourite artists. Some of the project partners and practitioners we work with were involved in Paaspop 2024. We took advantage of this by preparing a short video showcasing how the SAFE-CITIES platform and tools can be used during mass events like the music festival.
