The results from the very first National Diabetes Experience Survey are in, so let’s hear what the tens of thousands of participants in England had to say 🗣️: We’re pleased to see the positives... 96% of people living with type 1 diabetes said that they currently use a device to manage their diabetes. 81% of people with type 2 diabetes said that a healthcare professional talked to them about potential complications in the last 12 months. …However, there’s still work to do 52% of people with type 2 diabetes said that not recognising the symptoms of diabetes delayed their diagnosis. This was 51% among people with type 1. 61% of people with type 1 diabetes said that their diabetes is a constant worry, 37% of people with type 2 diabetes agreed with this statement. 📣 It’s vital that decision-makers now use these insights to make the improvements that really matter. We’ll continue our work with national and local NHS leaders to support them to do this. Let's keep campaigning together! Diabetes Alert Day is an important reminder for individuals to assess their risk for diabetes and take proactive steps to prevent and manage the disease. For plan sponsors, it's also an opportunity to evaluate whether their pharmacy benefit is optimized to lower costs associated with diabetes. Our Diabetes Care Plus Program has proven to be a cost-effective solution for our clients. By capturing financial assistance from diabetes drug manufacturers, we may reduce out-of-pocket costs for both members and plans. The program offers the most prescribed generic preventive medications for diabetes and its related complications as well as select diabetes-related supplies at a reduced or waived cost. In addition to cost savings, the Diabetes Care Plus Program focuses on improving patient outcomes. Through targeted outreach, we encourage non-adherent members to take their diabetic medication(s) as prescribed. This approach reduces healthcare costs by decreasing hospitalizations, emergency room visits, physician office visits, and the use of adjunctive medications. The results speak for themselves. In 2023, one of our clients saved $17.22 PMPM by implementing the Diabetes Care Plus Program. Could you be at risk of type 2 diabetes, or do you want to keep an eye on how well your diabetes is controlled? At Northern Clinics, we offer quick and easy Diabetes Blood Tests at our Holywood and Craigavon clinics. There are two main types of Diabetes: -Type 1 Diabetes -Type 2 Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes is most commonly diagnosed in childhood and is a result of the body being unable to make a hormone called insulin. Insulin is vital for helping the body use glucose in the blood as fuel. Without insulin, the glucose stays in the bloodstream and can cause damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart and feet. In Type 2 Diabetes, the body still makes insulin, but either too little is made or the insulin that is produced doesn’t work properly. Why is it important to get tested? Diabetes is often called the "silent killer" because many people may not experience symptoms until the condition is advanced. Early detection allows for better management, helping prevent serious complications like heart disease, nerve damage, or vision problems. Why go private over waiting for a GP appointment? While the NHS provides fantastic care, accessing routine tests like diabetes screenings can involve long wait times for GP appointments and delays in receiving results. With our private clinic, you can avoid the wait and get the peace of mind you deserve, quickly. Here are some key benefits of choosing a private service for diabetes testing: - No Waiting: Skip long waiting lists for GP appointments and get tested at a time that suits you. - Fast Results: Receive your results the same day, allowing you to take immediate action. - Comprehensive Care: We assess your overall risk and provide guidance on the next steps, whether you need lifestyle adjustments or further tests. - Convenient: Our clinic offers flexible appointment times, making it easy to fit your health check into your schedule. One of the most important aspects of managing Type 2 diabetes is for the patient to know their glucose level. "Regular and effective blood sugar monitoring is a vital part of diabetes management. It empowers you to take control of your condition, make timely adjustments to your care plan, and minimize the risk of complications. When using a home glucose meter, staying on top of your blood sugar levels is key to living well with diabetes," as stated in an article by https://hubs.ly/Q02ZHkxF0. Studies have revealed that 45% of people with diabetes don't adequately control the disease. In the 2024 National Diabetes Care Survey, a longitudinal analysis of patients with Type 2 diabetes in the United States, it was revealed that 88 percent of patients agreed that a remote patient monitoring program would help them better manage their disease between doctor visits. The cellular-enabled iGlucose® Plus transmits readings immediately via a secure cellular network and now has a multi-carrier SIM card, which means that it doesn't just connect to a pre-defined network but scans and chooses the best network in the patient's area. This leads to faster, more reliable transmission of glucose readings. Two words that are stand out for me from yesterday’s Diabetes Australia report The State of the Nation 2024 are “crisis point”. More than 300 people per day are diagnosed with diabetes, and an estimated 2 million Australians now live with diabetes. Over the past decade, the number of people known to be living with all types of diabetes in Australia rose by 32%. Sobering to look at the statistics, such as the number of people living with Type 2 diabetes tripled between 1990 and 2019. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of the 1,468, 142 people registered with the NDSS in Australia as of March 2024. This is of course, only those diagnosed and registered. It’s estimated that there may be 500,000 more people living with undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes in Australia. And the projected numbers look grim. We really need urgent action on diabetes prevention.

Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic condition that has affected First Nations, Metis and Inuit higher rates of complications, more severe symptoms and younger ages of diagnoses. But not all hope is lost. For many living with type 2 diabetes, steps can be taken to reduce symptoms, and for some, even get the disease into remission. In this Sunlife article, they speak with a diabetes educator and what remission looks like, while reminding us that it is not a cure: Jin explains that type 2 diabetes remission occurs: 🟠When your blood sugar levels are below the diabetes range, 🟠for more than three months, 🟠without the help of medication to lower your blood sugar. 💡To learn more, click the link below: https://ow.ly/sMo750RJ0Q8 #diabetesprevention #type2diabetes #type2 #remission #managingtype2 #managingdiabetes #metishealth #inuithealth #firstnationshealth #indigenoushealth #healthandwellness #diabetes #sunlife

World Diabetes Day: Advancing Diabetes Care On 2024 World Diabetes Day, the potential of artificial intelligence and new technologies and medication in transforming diabetes management are in the spotlight. For Type 1 diabetes, AI-powered tools are enabling more precise glucose monitoring and personalised treatment, empowering individuals to manage their health with confidence. In Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, early intervention in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and cardiovascular risk is crucial, and a promising pipeline of novel anti-obesity medications offers new options for managing weight—an important factor in disease progression and complications. As these innovations advance, education remains a cornerstone of the process. Beyond this, it’s essential to keep people with diabetes at the centre of the conversation, ensuring their voices shape the future of care. #WorldDiabetesDay #DiabetesCare #AIinHealthcare #MASLD #AntiObesityMedications
