Two words that are stand out for me from yesterday’s Diabetes Australia report The State of the Nation 2024 are “crisis point”. More than 300 people per day are diagnosed with diabetes, and an estimated 2 million Australians now live with diabetes. Over the past decade, the number of people known to be living with all types of diabetes in Australia rose by 32%. Sobering to look at the statistics, such as the number of people living with Type 2 diabetes tripled between 1990 and 2019. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of the 1,468, 142 people registered with the NDSS in Australia as of March 2024. This is of course, only those diagnosed and registered. It’s estimated that there may be 500,000 more people living with undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes in Australia. And the projected numbers look grim. We really need urgent action on diabetes prevention.

Is harming the human body directly or indirectly a criminal act? Let's look at one particular industry that bottles sweet-tasting liquids. If all these industries disappeared overnight, what negative effect would that have on human nutritional intake? Here is another direct question: how many bottles a day does the CEO of a company that produces sweet-tasting drinks have?
