👏 Well done! It's pretty hard to imagine that a piece of garbage in Maximilien Park will sooner or later end up in our rivers and the sea, but also in water and food. 👀 All plastics eventually break down into 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨-𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, which penetrate the earth and groundwater, or are washed into rivers by rainwater runoff. Actions like those of River Cleanup have visible effect and illustrate the importance of NGO lobbying of European institutions to put pressure : 🏭 - on plastic producers, whose pellets (raw plastic granules 2-5 mm in size, 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 !) escape en masse from their supply chain and invisibly soil all beaches 🛒 - on industries that consume large quantities of plastic. Just 2 years ago, the food industry and bottle manufacturers swore before the Commission that it was technically impossible to attach the cap to the bottle. 🏆 And finally? : from the absurd fantasies of NGOs Seas At Risk, we've moved on to plastic caps attached to bottles. 🤝 With the help of River Cleanup and the whole of civil society, NGOs and, above all, the governments, it is possible to reduce this plastic pollution which is poisoning the planet and all its living beings.
This week, I had the pleasure of putting one of ENGIE’s commitments in Belgium into action: continuing to be a local, responsible, and sustainable company. Alongside the CEO of River Cleanup, a partner of the Fondation ENGIE, and more than 80 ENGIE colleagues, we embraced the River Cleanup Challenge. For 10 minutes, we diligently collected litter in Maximilian Park, near the ENGIE Tower Brussels building. This collective effort aimed not only to enhance the park’s appeal for local residents and the many young people who play in it but also to mark our commitment to reducing plastic consumption and preventing it from polluting rivers and oceans. I am proud in this joint initiative, during which we gathered 20 kilograms of waste. Now, it’s my turn to tag three more CEOs. I encourage Guillaume Boutin, Frederic Dunon & Tinne Van der Straeten to join us in this meaningful endeavor. 😊🌿 #withENGIE #rivercleanupchallenge

Great post from Evero highlighting the important role waste wood plays in supporting the circular economy. At Seras we supply biomass fuel to six of the UK’s biggest biomass power plants, including Lisahally Power Station. Every year our waste solutions divert 1.1 million tonnes of waste wood away from landfill. By turning waste into clean energy we are making waste matter in our sustainable energy future. #netzero #cleanenergy #biomassenergy #circulareconomy
Did you know? Our Lisahally facility processes most of Northern Ireland's waste wood. Our plant diverted more than 110,000 tonnes of waste wood from landfills in 2023. By diverting this and using it to power local homes we’re not only easing the burden on landfills but also promoting sustainable waste management practices for a cleaner, greener future ♻️ EVERMORE|ENERGY

🌟 Exciting News Alert! 🌟 Residents of the picturesque Isle of Wight, nestled off the southern coast of England, have something monumental to celebrate! 🎉 The long-awaited waste-to-energy plant has finally kicked off its test operations! 💡🏝️ After a slight delay, the plant is now up and running, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future for the island. 🌿💚 According to a recent BBC report, January's testing phase yielded an impressive 386,663 kilowatt-hours of energy – enough to power approximately 7,000 homes for an entire week! 🏠💡 Waste-to-energy (WtE), also known as EfW (energy-from-waste), is a game-changer in environmental innovation. 🔄♻️ By converting paper, plastic, yard waste, and wood into energy, it not only reduces landfill waste but also curbs the release of planet-heating methane gas into the atmosphere. 🌍🚫 The process is as ingenious as it is efficient: trash is burned to heat water, which creates steam to power turbine blades, thus generating clean energy! 🌬️💨 Plus, it drastically reduces waste volume, transforming 2,000 pounds of garbage into 300-600 pounds of ash! 🌟✨ Here's to a brighter, cleaner future for the Isle of Wight and beyond! 🌟🌿 The Cool Down #WasteToEnergy #Sustainability #GreenTech #IsleofWight #EnvironmentalInnovation #CleanEnergy #GoGreen

WE ARE A RESPONSIBLE ORGANISATION As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint we have taken the decision to replace all the internal lighting at our site in Bray, Ireland with LEDs in a move expected to reduce energy consumption by at least 60%. We are also proud to announce that, as a result of a number of our sustainability initiatives, we have reduced our direct CO2 emissions by 44% between 2015 and 2023 and our indirect CO2 by 65% during the same time period, with plans to be net zero by 2030. Zero waste generated by the company goes to landfill with 89% recycled in 2023 and the remainder converted to biofuel. We have also allocated a patch of land on our site for a rewilding garden – a form of ecological restoration with an emphasis on recreating an area's "natural uncultivated state". Wildflower seeds were planted with pupils from the local school, Avondale Community College, as part of the Business in the Community programme. #BIC #sustainability #carbonreduction #dotherightthing
