Welcome to a new chapter for Zero Waste Scotland. Our new Corporate Plan is a collective call to #RewireTheEconomy to circularity. Our Chief Executive Iain Gulland visited Adam Smith's Panmure House in Edinburgh, the home of Scotland’s foremost economist Adam Smith, to reflect on why we must take bold action in order to tackle the climate crisis 📽️. Rewiring the economy - for people, planet and prosperity.
About us
Rewiring the economy ⚡ We know the biggest cause of climate change is overconsumption – where society puts too much pressure on earth’s finite resources through our “take, make, waste” economic model. Zero Waste Scotland works with government, business, and communities to rewire the economy from our current model to one where we make the most of the materials we have. This is known as a circular economy and it’s the right choice if we want to create a more equal and just society for all. We’re Scotland’s circular economy public body. Since 2014, our work has helped more people understand that the answer to the climate emergency is to consume less. Second hand doesn't mean second choice - it's the gift that keeps on giving. 🎁 By donating any unwanted toys or gifts to your local charity shop, you could make someone's Christmas a lot more special. Gifting second hand goods, or doing your shopping in charity shops is a simple way to still celebrate the holidays while reducing waste - but it's something a lot of people haven't considered doing before. So we want to know, would you gift second hand?

Still need to buy wrapping paper to wrap your presents? Why not choose wrapping paper that is easily recyclable for a greener Christmas! Here's how to check: scrunch your paper - if it stays scrunched, it’s good to recycle! Avoid recycling glittery or metallic paper, plastic ribbons and anything with a shiny coating.
