👏 Well done! It's pretty hard to imagine that a piece of garbage in Maximilien Park will sooner or later end up in our rivers and the sea, but also in water and food. 👀 All plastics eventually break down into 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨-𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, which penetrate the earth and groundwater, or are washed into rivers by rainwater runoff. Actions like those of River Cleanup have visible effect and illustrate the importance of NGO lobbying of European institutions to put pressure : 🏭 - on plastic producers, whose pellets (raw plastic granules 2-5 mm in size, 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 !) escape en masse from their supply chain and invisibly soil all beaches 🛒 - on industries that consume large quantities of plastic. Just 2 years ago, the food industry and bottle manufacturers swore before the Commission that it was technically impossible to attach the cap to the bottle. 🏆 And finally? : from the absurd fantasies of NGOs Seas At Risk, we've moved on to plastic caps attached to bottles. 🤝 With the help of River Cleanup and the whole of civil society, NGOs and, above all, the governments, it is possible to reduce this plastic pollution which is poisoning the planet and all its living beings.

CEO of ENGIE Belgium & Member of the Executive Committee at ENGIE Global Energy Management & Sales

This week, I had the pleasure of putting one of ENGIE’s commitments in Belgium into action: continuing to be a local, responsible, and sustainable company. Alongside the CEO of River Cleanup, a partner of the Fondation ENGIE, and more than 80 ENGIE colleagues, we embraced the River Cleanup Challenge. For 10 minutes, we diligently collected litter in Maximilian Park, near the ENGIE Tower Brussels building. This collective effort aimed not only to enhance the park’s appeal for local residents and the many young people who play in it but also to mark our commitment to reducing plastic consumption and preventing it from polluting rivers and oceans. I am proud in this joint initiative, during which we gathered 20 kilograms of waste. Now, it’s my turn to tag three more CEOs. I encourage Guillaume Boutin, Frederic Dunon & Tinne Van der Straeten to join us in this meaningful endeavor. 😊🌿 #withENGIE #rivercleanupchallenge
