I love marketing around events. Last month I had the awesome opportunity to talk event strategies during Utah Tech Week with 📱 Zach Barney—who is making events WAY easier for people thanks to Mobly. Events can create customer concentration like nothing else. If you want to have a LOT of conversations with your prospects, find a conference where your target persona attends. 👉 You want leads? Events. 👉 You want to train salespeople? Events. 👉 You want to learn about competitors? Events. 👉 You want to validate your assumptions? Events. 👉 You want to build your list? Events. 👉 You want to find influencers and thought leaders? Events. 👉 You want to find more events? You guessed it, events. Sometimes I hear people complain that events are expensive. And some events are not for the faint of budget. But when you start to calculate the ROI on all those bullets above? You may spend more all at once for events, but they can be gold. Especially once you understand this. (It makes a big difference.) Okay, here goes: A counterintuitive thing about events... ... is that they are more than "events." 📆 Buy that I mean they are more than just one moment in time. For marketers, an "event" is the excuse to market to your customer before, during, and after the event. And it's the same for virtual events like webinars and masterminds. This is your weekend reminder that tradeshows and events are a sales and marketing channel, not a cost of doing business, they must be executed as such... "Do more with less." Event marketers hear this all to often. Good news is. Sales and marketing channels should be trying to do more with less. Its an incredible practice and mindset to get into. I spoke with two people who know this drill all too well. Bethany Murphy, CMP and Erin McElroy The basics of do more with less is... its very difficult to do more with less if you don't have a strategy, and if you aren't dissecting your past efforts. Doing what you've always done doesn't cut it anymore. In order to maximize results and spend less, you need to be tinkering and trying to get dialed into what works. Erin talks about working smarter more creatively, and taking a fresh look at things. My favorite quote of here, "it is a ripe opportunity to innovate." Bethany talked about maximizing roi. In order to do this she talks about targeting the right people, spending money on the right audience, and focusing on quality over quantity. Doing less with more tends to have a negative connotation to it, but It shouldn't. The best event marketers leverage the opportunity to re think their approach. I also believe that doing more with less will allow you to find wasteful motions, wasteful 💰, and wasted resources.
