France Budget 2025: Ecological Cuts Raise Concerns!!! In the latest budget proposal for 2025, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced significant cuts to ecological initiatives. The proposed budget includes a reduction of €1.3 billion in ecological funding compared to 2024. Key areas affected include energy-efficient housing renovations, electric vehicle incentives, biodiversity funding, and the “Green Fund” for local ecological projects. These cuts have sparked concerns about the future of France’s environmental commitments and the impact on sustainable development efforts https://lnkd.in/e_QxFxfP

Kijanisha Afya Programme Brief The #KijanishaAfya programme is a comprehensive initiative that addresses the interconnected issues of energy, climate action, gender equality, and health. It aims to promote sustainability by implementing eco-friendly practices that enhance climate mitigation and resilience of primary health facilities in underserved communities of Dodoma and Kigoma regions. In its initial phase, the programme focuses on two districts from each region – namely Chemba and Mpwapwa in Dodoma, and Buhigwe and Kasulu in Kigoma, with the intention to extend to four additional districts, which are: Kondoa and Kongwa in Dodoma, and Uvinza and Kibondo in Kigoma. Future expansion into these additional districts will be contingent upon securing adequate funding. The programme also improves effectiveness in delivering primary health care services in these regions. It does this by supporting the installation of solar panels as a source of power in primary health centres alongside the deployment of energy-efficiency and solar-powered appliances. These interventions are complemented by enhancing the capacity of medical practitioners and communities on sustainable and productive use of energy for climate mitigation and adaptation. The Kijanisha Afya programme aims to establish a sustainable healthcare infrastructure that effectively reduces its environmental impact through climate mitigation interventions while enhancing resilience to climate change-related challenges through adaptation measures. The programme also aims to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services, promote social economic growth, and improve overall well-being within the communities. 🌍🌱 Exciting strides from Benin! 🇧🇯 On July 30-31, 2024, UN CC:Learn and the NDC Partnership, in collaboration with the Government of Benin, hosted a successful workshop in Cotonou. Around 40 representatives from government, NGOs, the private sector, and civil society came together to enhance their skills in using Benin's new web platform, which was developed to track and communicate the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) activities. This tool is crucial for improving transparency and effectiveness in tracking climate projects. Key sessions covered everything from website management to real-time project monitoring. Together, we're strengthening Benin's climate commitments! At a time of growing political mobilization in Switzerland (the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva has just adopted an appeal calling for the “unconditional release" of all Armenian prisoners; the Grand Council will soon vote on a resolution calling on the Federal Parliament to “demand the immediate release of Armenian prisoners”), the Federal Council's current position (talking only about climate at #COP29, organized in one of the world's most repressive regimes, including against its own people) seems untenable. Azerbaijan must be held to account, one year after the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh, and must start by releasing all Armenian prisoners arbitrarily detained in defiance of international humanitarian law. 🍃 ⚡ A New Way to Mitigate Energy Poverty: Lessons from the Transition Point ‘One-Stop Shop’ Pilot 📗 Impact report published and developed by CENSE members João Pedro Gouveia, Pedro Palma, and Miguel Macias Sequeira. The Transition Point pilot project is an initiative of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Portugal. Operating from a reused shipping container, Transition Point is a ‘one-stop shop’ that offers services to local populations, including advice on electricity and gas, information and support for home energy efficiency, and free energy assessments. It was implemented in the district of Setúbal, near Lisbon, between 2022 and 2023, in partnership with three other Portuguese entities: the Energy and Environment Agency of Arrábida (ENA), Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, CENSE - Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research and the Association of Energy and Environment Agencies (RNAE). The initiative provides valuable pointers for projects working with hard-to-reach or vulnerable communities on energy issues. This report presents the key findings and takeaways from the pilot, from setting up to scaling impact , and catalysing change.
