🌍 New Report on Climate and Development in Tunisia: Recently published, National Report on Climate and Development in Tunisia (CCDR) sheds light on the significant climate-related challenges faced by Tunisia. These challenges include water scarcity, coastal erosion, and the growing threat of floods. 🌊🌿 📖This report aligns with Tunisia’s national strategies aimed at transitioning toward a low-carbon economy. It emphasizes the need for immediate actions in adaptation and decarbonization. These actions not only mitigate the impact of climate change but also catalyze economic recovery and boost employment opportunities. 💼🌱 By focusing on policy interventions and investment opportunities, the CCDR aims to reduce the negative effects of climate change on both people and businesses. It paves the way for a resilient and sustainable development path. The report advocates for a holistic approach, suggesting that a combination of adaptation and mitigation measures—such as decarbonizing the electricity sector—could yield significant benefits. These benefits include increased GDP growth, poverty reduction, and a substantial decrease in energy-related emissions. 🌟🌏 🔗 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/dCFSjQws #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #Tunisia

"At a time when a new National Assembly is being formed and a new government is taking shape, Oxfam France is publishing an unprecedented study on France's policies for adapting to climate change. The conclusions are clear: the public authorities are not sufficiently anticipating the policies and investments needed to adapt, and are not protecting citizens from the consequences of climate change. Oxfam reveals that more than half of all human rights are under threat in France as a result of the public authorities' improvisation on adaptation and the absence of an ambitious global policy." Baku's decisions failed to rebalance adaptation and mitigation financing. While the New Collective Quantified Goal appears in writing, its delivery is left to the uncertain goodwill of public and private actors. No guarantees exist that climate finance will come as grants, not debt-loading loans for vulnerable nations. Africa demanded clear targets for mitigation, adaptation and loss & damage management. We received none. Our task now is to translate words into action. Substantial finance flows must reach those on the frontlines - families forced to flee rising seas, farmers facing failed crops, and communities recovering from cyclones. On the Global Goal on Adaptation, the necessary guidance to experts on their work gives us a platform upon which we can develop global indicators with local relevance, including indicators for support towards different elements of the targets: https://lnkd.in/dBDgHmX9

🎧 It was an incredible honour to attend the working session with Climate Commission for the Sahel Region (CCRS) Commission for the Sahel. It was part of the 2024 approved activities within the Directorate of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy to support African initiatives in enhancing the resilience of climate shock in Africa. 🔌 As you may be aware, at COP 22 meetings in Marrakech, His Majesty the King of #Morocco coordinated the establishment of the three Climate Commissions, namely the #Congo Basin Climate Commission, Sahel Region Climate Commission, and Small Island States Climate Commission, to oversee the implementation of continental policies on climate change. 📓 The AU Assembly decision Assembly/AU/Dec. 819(XXXV) of 2022 legally recognises the existence of these Commissions and calls for the African Union to enhance the coordination of efforts. ✳ Learning about the Sahel Commission's progress was incredible during the working session. 🌵 Of critical importance, the Sahel Commission has been working on several programmes such as: 1. Strengthening Resilience to Food and Nutritional Security in the Sahel Project for implementing Adaptation Priorities in West and Central Africa (PACO) 2. Project to support resilience and Adaptation to climate change for Communities and Ecosystems in the Sahel River Basins in partnership with IUCN. 3. Project to support the Resilience of Sahelian Agricultural Production Systems in partnership with AKADEMIYA2063 4. Project to accelerate access to low-GHG energy services to strengthen the resilience of rural communities in Niger in Partnership with UNDP and Mercy Corps 5. Strengthening population resilience in conflict zones in the Sahel in Partnership with FAO 6. Integrated Programme to improve access to sustainable energy and strengthening climate resilience in the Sahel Region 7. Project to recover urban household organic waste to restore degraded land. Climate Commission for the Sahel Region (CCRS) has identified its priorities, particularly in 💰 Strengthening the capacity of the commission and its member states in terms of innovative financing and project formulation of bankable projects in the following areas: 🌾 Climate-smart agriculture 🌊 Water Resilience 🌄 Land use. 🐄 Pastoralism 🙍♀️ Empowerment of women and youth 🛴 Green jobs 📢 Peacebuilding ☔ Disaster risk reduction 📕 Preparations for regional program proposal 📖 Support the completion of strategic studies such as 1. Loss and damage mechanism: sector priorities for the Sahel 2. Registering carbon projects 💚 Support for popularising the Commission’s Priority Areas and Supporting Resource Mobilisation for The Climate Fund for The Sahel Resilience during key international events. ✅ Support for advocacy efforts to strengthen partnerships. The #ACBF team organized a workshop with the Center for Studies and Research on Economic Analysis and Policies (CERAPE) last week with one of the beneficiary organizations from our Strengthening African Leadership for Climate Adaption (#SALCA) program. The workshop aimed to engage key strategic partners on #CERAPE in developing their new #strategicplan and #communicationstrategy. Key national stakeholders and development partners, including delegates from the Ministry for Planning Statistics and Regional Integration of the Republic of #Congo, attended the workshop. One key outcome was the unanimous consensus among stakeholders on the organization's vision and objectives for the next five years. Dedicated to enhancing the performance impact of organizations tackling climate change adaptation in Africa, we have been implementing the #SALCA program since 2022. The program's primary goal is to empower a robust network of organizations based in #Africa and led by Africans. These organizations will be able to drive Africa's response to #climatechange by engaging in meaningful policy dialogues, advocating for #change, and using a unified voice to raise awareness and influence #policy decisions. #CERAPE is a research centre established in November 2002 and registered in the Republic of Congo as a Non-Governmental Organization. Its mission is to research economic and social issues, including #agriculture, to inform policy and practice. #CERAPE has a regional presence, with country research units in Cameroon, the Central African Republic (CAR), and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). With 95% completion project status, the biogas plant called the Water Jacket-overflow system with the capacity to produce 80m3 of biogas will mitigates the tree cutting that causes land degradation while exercerbating #climate change through its provision of biogas once it starts running. Mitigating with biogas reduces the burden of unpaid care work on #women and girls who are burdened by this chore which takes up hours per day in delivering. It also reduces GBV as the women and girls get exposed to the scourge either on their way to fetching firewood or as squabbles erupt with their partners for not doing other expected chores due to time they spent on this task. This project is meant to offer an alternative and #renewable energy that can be used for household use to reduce, if not remove, the daily task of fuelwood gathering in areas of scarcity. Freeing up energy and time for women in such circumstances often allows them to have time for other activities, some of which may be income generating. Research indicates that #women and girls are up to 14 times more likely to be harmed during a disaster. For those who survive, climate-induced disasters can amplify gender inequalities, making them more vulnerable to GBV. TaLI is collectively working with other stakeholders in ending violence against #girls and young #women.
