COI's scare the hell out of me and they should you as well. A Certificate of Insurance shows what agent, carrier, term, and line of coverage a contractor has. What it doesn't show is the BS exclusions embedded into the fine print of policies. I've seen the COI process fail time and time again. Here are a couple examples. - A cannabis beverage manufacturer was asked to provide a COI to a venue that wanted to carry their product. The COI proved they had product liability, however, does not have a place to indicate a cannabis exclusion. This manufacturer's coverage is essentially worthless! - A contractor was asked to provide a COI for a project that would allow them to work on 50+ housing units. The policy excludes any coverage beyond the 15th home, in an attempt to reduce large class action lawsuits. - A contractor was asked to carry coverage for a piece of equipment they are renting. The piece of equipment is extremely susceptible to flooding and earth movement, both of which were exclusions on the policy. These situations could be avoided by going beyond the COI. Work with your commercial agent to determine how to best mitigate these scenarios, otherwise you could be on the hook for a lot more than you expected! #coi #commercialinsurance #contractorsinsurance

Here's 👇 another great question to ask a prospect right away. You'll quickly learn if they're qualified or not. I started using it because the cold-calling service we were contracted with at the time was setting crap appointments. I was sick and tired of walking into discovery meetings with prospects who had no desire to be there but felt pressured to take the meeting. One of the least talked about tips in sales is disqualifying a prospect as quickly as possible. Every week we (Complete Game Consulting) look at our pipeline and ask ourselves, "Who do we need to kick out of the pipeline?" We want legitimate opportunities, not prospects dragging us along. The quicker you get to "no" the more room you create for "yes".
