On Tuesday, Blackstone acquired AirTrunk for $23.5b. Here's what you need to know: AirTrunk develops what is essentially large campuses with buildings filled with tens of thousands of servers to store data. It may sound relatively boring, but they're required for on-demand services, think Google Drive, Netflix and, more recently, OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Covid WFH and the AI boom has significantly increased data usage and, subsequently, the demand for data centres. This has caused AirTrunk's val to 8x in the past 4 years and Blackstone thinks there is plenty left in it. 🤔 I'm not going to pretend to be a data centre expert but I do question the long-term gains to be had. AirTrunk's customers likely include Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Amazon with AirTrunk housing excess data. It's common for startups to hear "why doesn't Google just do it?" but here it has merit. Long term gains are reliant on: - These companies ignoring Australia - Sufficient edge case data - A technical advantage Microsoft announced last year a US$3.17b investment here, so they already have plans for Australia. These companies have almost bottomless pockets and little appetite for reliance on 3rd parties for their AI capabilities. They will have minimal edge cases. Having capacity now is an advantage but in the long run the bigger players will have access to better, more expensive, equipment, which may be in limited supply. Does anyone with a deeper tech knowledge want to weigh in?

The Interim Executive market looks very different from fourteen years ago!    This market has matured in nearly every aspect since Watermark began the Interim Executive Survey in 2011. A few differences:  🔹 There has now been a surge in Interim Executives engaged on day-rate contracts (below the line) and a drop in fixed-term contracts (above the line). This reflects the preference for flexible and agile arrangements that align with changing business needs in the current business environment.  🔹 The length of Interim Executive contracts has increased.
