💡 Monthly SOX Tip 💡 System Implementations   Tip: Financial system implementations and upgrades fall under the scope of SOX and you only have one shot to get it right!   How: Ensure you collect and retain evidence of all reviews performed during the implementation. Mead has a comprehensive checklist of steps to follow to ensure you have controls in place to address the risks.     Example: Companies need to have documented robust user access testing (UAT) that is reviewed and approved by the Business System Owner. Example: User Roles within the new system must be reviewed for appropriateness. The review should ensure there are no segregation of duties conflicts and ensure assigned roles align with corporate policies before going live with the system. Evidence of this review must be thoroughly documented and maintained.    Other considerations: While a financial system implementation can result in time savings for your finance and accounting staff as well as automating and increasing scalability of processes, it also increases the workload of the IT staff to support the system and the related controls.
