DELEGATE, DON'T ABDICATE. Running an accounting firm means overseeing all the different facets of the business, while placing value on your precious time. To truly free up your time, mastering the art of delegation is essential. But delegation is more than just handing off tasks—it’s about empowering your team while ensuring clarity and accountability. Here’s how effective delegation looks: 1. Match the task to the right person: Assess the task and assign it to the appropriate team member. Provide support along the way. 2. Communicate clearly: Be specific and crystal clear in your instructions to avoid any misunderstandings. 3. Ensure understanding: Ask your team member to repeat back the instructions to confirm they’ve understood. 4. Set a time frame: Define deadlines and request confirmation once the task is completed. 5. Align on expectations: Make sure both of you are on the same page regarding the task’s outcome. 6. Review together: After completion, review the task together and discuss any improvements for the future. Effective delegation builds trust, improves communication, raises productivity, and ultimately leads to happier workplaces and clients. On the flip side, here’s what delegation shouldn’t look like: 1. Assigning tasks randomly and forgetting about them. 2. Providing vague or minimal instructions. 3. Failing to check if the task was understood. 4. Not setting deadlines. 5. Having misaligned expectations. 6. Skipping the review process. This is abdication, and leads to distrust, miscommunication, and lower productivity. Start implementing these rules today and watch your team thrive! https://lnkd.in/gmVxfDiJ

Are you thinking of performing a half year audit on diverse activities? Whether as a CEO, CFO, COO or as an accountant, we still need to perform a review of all activities that transpired during the first half of the year. No matter how the first half of the year has been, we still need to develop a progress report, make amends, review performances and review targets. Inculcating some key action items can help to drive and improve operations. As an accountant, we still need to review the numbers, if they are matching up as they ought to be.. - As an accountant, do I come to work late or early. How have I been effective in maintaining a work - life balance? - Am I still keeping an up to date performance on exhibiting accuracy and integrity? - What affected the revenue lines at the half year and what system has enabled its numbers to increase? - How well have we created a structure to minimize our receivables and how have we been able to recover them quickly? - Is our operating expenses, others KPIs growing beyond the budget line or reducing? - What recommendations have we made to the business line to achieve its key operation results? - Have I contributed to the team, to ensure it's growth and performance, within the team? Any trainings? - As a leader, how well have I been able to impact and led the team to achieve its objectives? -What action items are yet to completed as we wrap up the first half of the year? - Any shortcomings within the team? Is the company doing well with their numbers? - What are the achievements made and how did we achieve it? In line with month end closures, what mistakes did we make? Was it late reports? And how do we correct them. - Our numbers may look good, beyond the profits, any structure for sustainability? As we journey through the second half the year, key financial decisions needs to be taken, in order not to minimize mistakes, it's important to have a glimpse of the previous months, celebrate milestones and develop a progress report.
