It’s on. Since my last post, I’ve been asked by some folks here at the agency for tips on dealing with the nuttiness of the 4th quarter. Here are my thoughts: - Stay organized and set near-term goals that support your long-term objectives! It’s hugely important to acknowledge your progress, and being aware will positively contribute to your mental health. - Recognize that Q4 stress is shared by your clients and colleagues. Agency life is a team game where we rely on one another for shared success, so do all you can to be a good human being along the way. Stay positive, encourage your teammates, and celebrate wins together. All are equally important! - Use your time wisely! While managing a to-do list full of immediate tasks, always revisit your team’s year-end goals to be certain you are checking off all the boxes. Connect with your clients and colleagues to make sure you are prioritizing tasks effectively and executing accordingly. - Be mindful of rounding the bend and have an eye on the programs that will drive your client’s business forward in January. It's tough but essential to balance a strong year-end performance with preparation for the new year. It's a parallel play: succeed tactically now while setting up your team for what's to come—​so you’re not scrambling at the start. - Finally, take some breaks and have some fun—both during the day and throughout the week. Recharging your batteries ensures your clients and the agency get you at your very best. It’s Spirit Week here at Matter, and I love the energy and enthusiasm our team brings all year round—but particularly in weeks like this! We're not only welcoming new faces and clients but also planning for our future and setting ourselves up to crush Q4. When I started out in marketing I was really sensitive. Really thin-skinned. I was wounded by feedback (especially late feedback) that was anything less than a pat on the head for being great. I was incapable of hearing criticism of any work I had done as anything but a damning of my character. I realize I don't come out very well in this story. That's ok. This isn't really about feedback. It's about learning to collaborate. Because somewhere - I honestly don't know where or when - I learned to listen (a bit). I don't think I'm perfect at it (who is?) but I stopped bristling at an alternative approach and started to rule it in. Is that idea valid? Is it better than my original idea? I've heard some things about how some really successful companies operate on a 'best idea wins' approach. In other words, it's not hierarchical, anyone with a good suggestion can put it forward. Sometimes the people that cause the most friction are the ones that get the most done because they spark us all into action. Marketers will forever be asked to do more with less — less time, less resources, less direction, etc. In fact, according to a new PhotoShelter survey, 89% say content demand has gone up in the last year, 78% say budget allocation is a concern, and nearly half (47%) struggle to differentiate their brand from the competition. “The majority of responses point to an overall desire for process improvements to cut down on busy work to focus on higher ROI tasks,” says the research whitepaper. “64% of marketing leaders say that friction in their team’s workflow negatively impacts revenue-driving functions.” The solution, as you may have guessed, is AI. As I’ve dramatically waited until now to reveal, the PhotoShelter paper is titled “How AI is Reshaping Marketing For CMOs,” and it dives into some of the ways AI tools have helped the 62% who already use AI in their workflows. CMOs are more likely to use AI tools over individuals for task automation (66%), asset organization (40%), and visual content creation (27%), finding such benefits as saving time (77%), reducing expenses (51%), optimizing performance (51%), and increasing leads (51%). “Overall, CMOs and upper management are further ahead on the AI curve and feel more positive about the possibilities AI offers,” the whitepaper says. “79% of CMOs whose teams do not use AI experience some kind of pain, including increased expenses, bandwidth constraints, campaign performance, [and] lead generation.” PhotoShelter found that more than half (54%) of those surveyed also used a digital asset management (DAM) platform, which helped improve productivity (96%), improve efficiency (91%), improve work quality (87%), and decrease workload (74%). #AImarketing #AImarketingsolutions #workflowautomation #marketingworkflow #publishing #publishingindustry #digitalpublishing #mediapublishing #AIsoftware #AImarketingsoftware #digitalmarketing #digitalmediamanager #digitalmediamanagement #MarketingManager #MagazineManager (Photo Source: PhotoShelter)

Coming at you live from somewhere between Oregon and Washington! I'm on this wild ride called a "workcation" with my best friend. She's doing board meeting stuff, I'm slinging brand strategies, and it been amazing- 10/10 recommend- The highlights so far: SIYL team Nailed a branding presentation that had our team doing virtual high-fives this AM- Networked over dinner with my friend's peers - Proved that "out of office" doesn't mean "out of awesome ideas"- This morning I am going to go see a client! This whole work-from-anywhere gig? I love it. Sure, there's work. But there's also: Laughs between laptop sessions Impromptu brainstorms over breakfast The kind of conversations that don't happen in at home or in an office. If you can have a workcation- do it. It's like regular work, but with better views and amazing company. Still got a few days left on this PNW adventure. Who knows what'll happen next? EDWARD ARE YOU OUT THERE? Is anyone else mixing business with best friend time? I want to know about it.

I love this break down of steps for social media success. The important part is making sure that each of these Cs is included in your planning and day-to-day execution.
