TV, Google or social media? The folks at Society22 and Censuswide conducted a study to find out which channels have the most influence on U.S. consumers. Notably, most respondents were able to name the sources of brand information for the last five products they purchased ✅ Internet searches came out on top (36%). This was followed by recommendations from family or friends (30%), brand advertising on TV or radio (25%), social media advertising (23%), and brand stories from other content creators or influencers (20%). When it comes to what most often inspires US consumers to make a purchase, YouTube leads the way (37%), followed by TV commercials (36%), offline sources such as friends, family and in-store displays (35%), Facebook (30%) and TikTok (26%). ➡️ The main conclusion of the researchers is that in order to influence purchase decisions through content, brands need to tailor it to their target audience. I would add that regardless of which channel your audience chooses, be mindful of your reputation. Don't skimp on content creation, manage negative feedback effectively, and word of mouth will work for you, both online and offline. #Research #SocialMedia #ReputationExpert

It's somewhat of a holiday for the H/Advisors Abernathy digital team as we published our second annual #SocialInTheCSuite report, where we examined nearly 55K social media posts to discover how #CSuite leaders are using digital mediums to connect with key stakeholders. There's a link below to download the full report, but a few of my favorite data points prove that: 🥇 If your senior leaders aren't yet on social media, they're behind their peers. 7 in 10 CEOs have at least one social media account, with best-in-class leaders sharing messages across multiple social channels. At this point, there has to be a strategic reason NOT to have senior leaders active on social media. 🥇 Only the most digital-savvy leaders are using social media to take a stand on social issues, with just 20% of CEOs posting on issues like conflicts in the Ukraine and Palestine, #DEI and reproductive rights. Leaders who do use social media to take a stand on critical issues can expect those posts to have a greater impact than those made in traditional media outlets (so it's kind of important to get it right). 🥇 The audiences that matter most in #executivecommunications are ABSOLUTELY engaged on social media, led by industry influencers, investors and policymakers. Even employees are engaged on social, as employee-related posts rank among the most liked, shared, and commented on when coming from senior leaders. So the old argument that "Our people aren't really on social media," can stay in 2010 where it belongs. It's not true - they're there and waiting to hear from their leaders. According to PR Newswire's latest 'State of the Press Release' report, 74% of journalists still want to receive press releases—I guess that's good news for us. Is it true? 🎯 What caught my eye: Action verbs in press release titles matter. "Announce," "Acquire," and "Launch" in headlines are the top performers for views. Also, timing is still critical. Tuesday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is when news readers are most engaged. PRWeek's great 2024 Business Report highlights the key challenge facing our industry. Communications is more important than ever. Comms and policy leaders are being asked to play far larger roles as business partners supporting ever more stakeholders. So why did the industry suffer so much in 2023 after many years of growth? As an sector, we are not adapting fast enough to the needs. Organizations are desperate for help but also under tremendous financial strain. They now need both senior level counsel and advisory support as well as deep domain expertise to actually produce.
