    Accounting, numbers, analysis, and such

This rare post is about a transformative experience worth sharing with the CPG community focused on not uncomplicated processes of trade promotions. From my experience, it is one of the most intricate accounting areas in the CPG industry. When faced with this complexity, conventional solutions offered by industry professionals fell short, requiring substantial involvement from the accounting team and without truly aligning with the sales team’s reports. I had a strong sense that a more sophisticated solution was out there—something that could address these challenges head-on. After extensive research and multiple intros, it became evident that Vividly is the product that CPG businesses have been waiting for. Vividly offers a seamless blend of a highly intuitive, technical interface with the invaluable expertise of seasoned professionals in deduction management and dispute resolution. Their “can-do” attitude is refreshing—whenever I expressed a need for a particular solution, not only did they often have the tool ready, but they were also willing to innovate in real time to address specific challenges. After working closely with Vividly’s platform and their stellar services team for almost a year, I can confidently vouch for their ability to transform trade promotion management practices. From planning promotional calendars to recovering deductions, all backed by powerful analytical tools, Vividly integrates and streamlines the entire process. For any CPG company seeking to outsource trade promotion management while achieving unmatched efficiency, I highly recommend Vividly. This partnership has been a game-changer. • A light week of updates this week, but here's what's up in the #cpgindustry: Under the auspices of a new business division, called FutureBev, FUTURE BEVERAGES has acquired a 100,000 square foot facility in Ventura, Calif. in which it plans to manufacture its canned products as well as co-pack for others when it goes online in January. Q Mixers has named Betsy Frost as its new CEO, taking over the role from outgoing chief executive Bob Arnold. Mondelēz International is exploring a possible acquisition of candy and snack rival Hershey, which would bring together such brands as Oreo, Ritz, Reese’s, and SkinnyPop Popcorn and generate annual sales of almost $50 billion. The potential deal would be even bigger than Mars’ agreement earlier this year to snap up Kellanova for nearly $36 billion. The EVERY Company has become the latest food tech outfit to lock in funds, totaling $2 million, from the U.S. Department of Defense. The cash was deployed from the DoD’s Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program to bolster the U.S.’s bioeconomic strengths and maintain the country’s “supply chain and military superiority,” according to the DoD. SkinnyDipped has introduced topless peanut butter cups. The snacks are formulated with peanut butter and are encased in a dark chocolate shell. Amy's Kitchen is expanding its breakfast offerings with a group of tofu egg scramble dishes. The line includes California Scramble, Mexican Scramble and Tofu Scramble. The company also launched wraps and burritos including the Ranchero Burrito, Scramble Wrap and a Gluten-Free Tofu Scramble Wrap.

The communication gap between sales and accounting/finance teams in CPG brands can often result in unexpected deductions and challenges in cashflow management. To address this issue, here are some suggestions: 1. Establish a shared platform for planning and monitoring promotions, enabling real-time visibility for both teams. 2. Centralize all relevant documentation (contracts, emails, deal sheets) related to promotions to provide easy access to essential information. 3. Utilize a TPM tool (Like Vividly 😉) that automatically generate reports on projected versus actual spending, aiding in financial forecasting and allowing sales teams to adjust strategies accordingly. 4. Analyze historical promotion data to improve future planning and decision-making processes. 5. Ensure leadership has convenient access to promotional calendars and expenditure forecasts to maintain organizational alignment. Implementing these strategies can significantly improve inter-departmental communication, leading to more successful promotions and enhanced financial outcomes.
