ORLEN Synthos Green Energy, GEH and Laurentis Energy Partners will work together to prepare the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR) for OSGE’s BWRX-300 small modular reactor nuclear project in Poland. An agreement formalizing the cooperation was signed today during a ceremony in Warsaw. “International collaboration will be crucial to the successful execution of new nuclear projects so we are excited to work together with OSGE and Laurentis Energy Partners on this licensing requirement for deployment of our SMR technology in Poland,” said Sean Sexstone, Executive Vice President, Advanced Nuclear, GEH. A PSAR demonstrates the safety of a plant design and is a key element of the nuclear power plant licensing process. GEH and Ontario-based Laurentis worked closely with Ontario Power Generation to prepare a BWRX-300 PSAR for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. “PSAR is one of the key elements of the whole licensing process for a nuclear power plant. By having such experienced partners involved in the project, we are confident that OSGE will deliver to the Polish nuclear authority a comprehensive report that meets all requirements of the Polish law,” said Rafał Kasprów, CEO of OSGE. “We are launching work on the first PSAR related to small modular reactors in the EU. This is a significant milestone in the SMR deployment process, and I believe it paves the way for bolder actions in other European countries, as well.” “Laurentis is excited to work with OSGE and GE Hitachi to take the next steps to establish the feasibility of small modular reactor deployment in Poland,” said Jason Van Wart, President and CEO of Laurentis. “As a company with experience and expertise in new nuclear services from conception to execution, including regulatory support, we are uniquely positioned to help OSGE progress its project to enable Poland to achieve its clean energy ambitions.” Ontario Minister of Energy and Electrification Stephen Lecce and Polish government officials participated in the ceremony.

Ontario, Canada, is taking significant strides towards a sustainable future. Ontario Power Generation are deploying the world’s first commercial nuclear Small Modular Reactor (#SMR) from GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, a cutting-edge technology set to redefine the energy landscape. At the same time, GE Vernova are embarking on a 15-year partnership to refurbish a fleet of #OPG's #hydropower stations in the #Niagara region - modernizing assets that have been powering #Ontario for generations. This work will extend their lifespan and enhance their output and performance. These partnerships with OPG also exemplifies #GEVernova’s ability to support and collaborate with our customers on their #EnergyTransition journeys through a diverse range of technologies. While we revitalize hydro assets that are crucial for today’s decarbonization, we’re also advancing game-changing technology that will deliver sustainable, affordable, and reliable power in the next decades. GE Vernova is proud to support #decarbonization efforts in #Canada by delivering innovative energy solutions. Through collaboration and cutting-edge technology, we're driving the transition to cleaner energy and helping reduce carbon emissions. At GE Vernova, we’re passionate about leading the global energy transition. Our solutions are not just concepts, they have been designed to reshape the future of energy, making a real impact on the UK and the world’s journey towards net zero. We’re tackling this challenge on multiple fronts, whether it’s pioneering small modular reactors (#SMR), supporting GB Energy, or bridging the skills gap. Our recent blog series highlights these initiatives and features insights from Craig Jones, Andy Champ, Clar Collins, and Nomi Ahmad. Here’s a closer look at our key focus areas: ▪ Pioneering small modular reactors (SMRs): These advanced reactors, designed with enhanced safety features, will play a pivotal role in the UK’s decarbonisation strategy, providing a flexible and low-carbon energy source that complements renewable technologies. ▪ Upgrading the energy grid: Our proposed strategic investments in #grid infrastructure could enhance capacity and resilience, allowing us to efficiently integrate a diverse energy mix, including wind, solar, and nuclear power. This modernisation is critical for meeting future energy demands. ▪ Supporting Great British Energy: This Bill is a crucial step in reshaping the UK's energy landscape. The government should focus on close-to-market technologies like SMRs and carbon capture to attract private investment and support the net-zero grid goal by 2030. ▪ Addressing the skills gap: Our initiatives, such as the #NextEngineers programme in Staffordshire, are designed to inspire and equip the next generation of engineers with the skills needed for successful careers in the evolving energy sector. Stay tuned for more insights from our blog series, where we’ll continue to share our projects and highlight the collaborative efforts driving the energy transition. Together, we’re not just talking about change, we’re making it happen for a more sustainable tomorrow. #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #NetZero #GEVernova #GreatBritishEnergy

We are encouraged by the UK Government's renewed commitment to nuclear energy in the recent Autumn Budget. SMRs will be a vital part of delivering the UK's nuclear ambitions and achieving the government’s net zero objectives. As one of the shortlisted entrants to Great British Nuclear’s SMR competition, GEH stands ready to partner with GBN and the UK Government to deliver on our shared nuclear ambitions in the UK, accelerating the energy transition at pace. GEH’s 10th generation SMR design — the BWRX-300 — is a low-risk, high-reward choice for the UK, building on decades of real-world operating experience and innovation, using a standard design, a proven delivery model and GEH’s experience with cross-border regulatory collaboration.
Great British Nuclear (GBN) has now issued an Invitation to Negotiate to the four companies its Small Modular Reactor (SMR) selection process. After these negotiations are concluded, the companies will be invited to submit Final Tenders, which GBN will then evaluate. A final decision on which technologies to select will be taken in the spring. GBN will provide further updates in due course. The companies remaining in this process are GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy International LLC, Holtec Britain Ltd, Rolls Royce SMR Ltd, and Westinghouse Electric Company UK Ltd.
