This just in: we’re opening a High Voltage Direct Current (#HVDC) Competence Center at our electrification facility in Berlin! 📣 #GEVernova has over 100 years of history in #Germany. With this expansion, we continue to seek decarbonization while meeting growing demand for #electricity in #Europe, supporting Germany’s goal of generating at least 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The center will support HVDC systems worldwide, testing technology to enable the transmission of bulk #power, simplifying the integration of #RenewableEnergy into the #grid, connecting HVDC transmission links, and expanding our capacity to deliver the growing #Electrification backlog. The project is also expecting openings for new highly skilled jobs, positioning the Berlin Electrification facility as a major contributor to the development of energy solutions across the region. 🌍 As #COP29 kicks off and we continue to navigate the energy transition exploring different pathways, Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29, shares her reflections in the COP Collection. They need to be equipped with the knowledge and finance to thrive in the energy transition. 🌱  ▪ “Impact Makers Project” – Celebrating “local heroes” - social entrepreneurs, community leaders, and startups—who are developing impactful, tangible solutions to climate challenges in their communities. These individuals are driving change and proving that every action matters. Arpadarai’s message is clear: “success depends on an unprecedented level of collaboration”. Exciting news out of the gas power sector! We’re delighted to announce that we’ve provided three 9HA.02 heavy duty gas turbines to one of the largest gas power plants in #China. Our partnership with power utility Guandong Energy Group Co.,Ltd is transforming Chinese power plants from coal to natural gas, helping the transition to nearly #NetZero carbon emissions. By using natural gas in a highly efficient way with our H-class leading technology, the plant has a lower emissions impact with up to 60% less carbon emissions compared to plants of the same size powered by coal. In 2015, the first cyber attack to ever take out an electrical #grid occured in Ukraine, leaving 230,000 residents without power– just two days before Christmas. Though power was restored just a few hours later, the control centers spent months repairing the damage to their computer systems. Protecting power plants from cyber attacks requires advanced security measures, which take time to implement and utilize. How can we ensure security on a grid that moves at a split-second pace? A well engineered energy infrastructure shouldn’t prioritize safety or speed– it should ensure systems can work both swiftly and safely. And we’re working on the technology to make it possible.
