About us
The Commission for Nursing Reimbursement launched in response to the nationwide concerns of nursing staffing shortages and will be working to change the way that Medicare reimburses health care systems for the valuable care that nurses do. The Commission aims to evaluate, review and make recommendations to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services on how to improve the current model of payment for nursing services within the hospitals and others. The Commission will be working alongside nursing organizations and partnering with healthcare groups across the nation to propose a solution to Congress that takes into account the needs of the more than 5 million nurses in America today and seeks to reduce the high cost of quality healthcare.

Tomorrow, November 14th, the Commission for Nurse Reimbursement will host its final and largest Legislative Taskforce event for 2024, marking a significant milestone in our advocacy journey. With 14 dedicated #volunteers and one #commissioner confirmed, this event will bring double the force and impact compared to our first incredible meeting on September 11th. This time, we’ll have two groups tackling over 9 meetings each—ensuring we make the strongest case possible for transforming the nursing reimbursement structure. Our volunteers will be meeting directly with influential members of the Nursing Caucus, HELP Committee, and Finance Committee, engaging with key decision-makers to share insights and recommendations that will secure better support for our nation’s nurses. This milestone couldn’t come at a more critical time, as we continue to push for changes that recognize the indispensable value nurses bring to healthcare. Thank you to our amazing volunteers and leaders who are dedicating their time and energy to make sure the voices of over 5 million nurses are heard. We LOVE seeing our #colleagues share their thoughts about the "value" of the #nurse. Special thanks to J. Michael Connors MD! We couldn't agree more with this statement, "If we’re serious about building a healthcare system that truly values patient outcomes, it’s time to acknowledge and invest in the vital role nurses play at every point of care. This isn’t just a staffing issue—it’s a fundamental shift that requires recalibrating our priorities." It's time for a fundamental shift in the current economic model for #nursingservices. And, we're proud to say we're leading the charge! #healthcareonlinkedin #nursesonlinkedin #nursereimbursement #healthcaredelivery Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL Sharon Pearce
Continual improvement seeker with old school belief that better healthcare outcomes come from strengthening trusted relationships.
In today’s healthcare system, a pervasive myth continues to undermine patient outcomes: the belief that doctors or “providers” of revenue-generating services are the central drivers of quality care, while nurses are treated as secondary. This lie has led to a system that undervalues, underfunds, and underutilizes one of its most essential resources. The truth is that nurses are critical to patient outcomes across all settings—from primary care clinics to emergency rooms, hospital wards, and ICUs. Yet, despite overwhelming evidence of their impact, nurses are frequently sidelined in favor of metrics that prioritize billable services over genuine patient care. If we’re serious about building a healthcare system that truly values patient outcomes, it’s time to acknowledge and invest in the vital role nurses play at every point of care. This isn’t just a staffing issue—it’s a fundamental shift that requires recalibrating our priorities. To deliver better care, we need to empower nurses and recognize them as the core of a patient-centered, value-driven healthcare system.

The national conversation around fair #reimbursement for #nurses is gaining momentum, and key leaders on the HELP Committee are taking notice. Thanks to Kevin Pho, M.D., for bringing awareness to this issue and joining the conversation! We're leading the charge to change how we value and reimburse for #nursing services, addressing the root causes of the #nursingcrisis and retention issues plaguing our healthcare system. Not only does the current model hide the #valueofnurses and make us a #costcenter, but it also negatively impacts #patientoutcomes. We need your voice! Join us in advocating for a seat at the table to ensure that nurses are fairly compensated for their essential contributions to #patientcare. Can we really improve hospital care by rethinking how we value nurses? One idea I'm exploring is adding nurse staffing hours per patient day and turnover rates to hospital comparisons. This could change how hospitals are paid, making these metrics part of the value-based payment programs. Long term, it might even redefine how we pay for nursing and support staff, rather than hiding costs in room and board. What impact do you think this could have on healthcare quality? The Senate HELP Committee is investigating whether the severe hospital staffing crisis, marked by overworked and undervalued staff, is jeopardizing the well-being of both patients and nurses. #NurseStaffing #PatientCare #HealthcareInnovation #HospitalManagement #ValueBasedCare #NurseTurnover #HealthcareReform #DRGSystems
