PPC and SEO: What's the difference? Both PPC and SEO help to increase the visibility of your business online by placing your website content on search engine results pages (SERPs) but they achieve it in different ways and timescales. If you're looking for quick results, opt for PPC. You'll be paying for your ads to appear at the top of SERPs when users are searching for the keywords you're targeting. SEO is a longer-term strategy to get your pages to organically rank higher in SERPs for target keywords. The results aren't as immediate as PPC but if you are continually working on optimising pages, your should consistently see your content rank highly. I hosted a 2-hour 'Training by Doing' session yesterday evening with a US web design agency via Zoom. Once I quickly understood where they are now and where they would like to get to when it comes to integrating SEO into their agency... I got them to share their screen, logged into one of their clients sites, and I talked them through making SEO tweaks/improvements live on the fly whilst explaining how to spot impactful opportunities, and talking through the why. It makes a massive difference than me just talking through a set of slides. Being hands-on doing the doing whist learning is so impactful. PPC campaigns take time to bed in!! Sometimes, we can hit it straight out of the park but often this is the exception rather than the rule. While paid search will instantly start driving traffic to your website, it takes time for your campaigns to start driving serious results. It's naturally all about optimisations. Looking at what's working and what is not working, then pointing the budget according, whether that is pausing poor keywords or stripping kingpin terms into separate campaigns. If you are setting campaigns live it's important to bear this mind and forecast correctly. It's all about the hard slog of testing, testing & more testing. Below is from one of our clients. Last September my client ranked for 21 non-branded keywords in the top 3 positions. This September they are ranking for 1,827. After creating a whole new site structure, content, internal linking structure etc etc, we’ve got the site into a much much healthier position going forward. Their YoY traffic from non-branded terms has 19x’d. It’s also 3x’d included branded terms. A previous heavy over-reliance on brand search has now been flipped, with 55% of organic traffic now coming from non-brand search, meaning that is now the majority. This has resulted in just shy of £90k organic revenue uplift (YoY growth) in August alone, which isn’t a peak month either. The work we have conducted also seems to have worked nicely with the latest Google Core Algorithm update, with increased performance since the roll out has been completed. Always start with an SEO audit! That’s the rule I impose internally before we can work with a client. If the prospect disagrees, we don’t work with them. Simple. We lose more opportunities because of this than we gain, so why insist on it? There are two main reasons. 1. It’s our process: we are a highly process-driven business with processes and checklists for everything. It makes us more efficient and effective in what we do, It makes everything more predictable, including our results. We have a simple rule: If it’s repeated more than once, then there should be a process for it… we’ve even got a process for making a brew. Nah, not really. But, come to think of it, that’s not a bad shout. Secondly, it sets a definitive “line in the sand.”. A point in time from before we started working with a business and anything beyond that. This way, we can map out the route we take depending on the findings of the audit and the recommendations we propose. It also forms the basis of the strategy we propose and how we can bring value to a potential client based on what we’ve discovered and the prospect's objectives. I can’t vouch for competitors, but I have heard some horror stories when onboarding new clients, which suggest to me that there is little due diligence being taken to give clients the best possible advice but also to protect both parties from poor SEO/marketing practices. To me, that is completely counterintuitive, or am I wrong in thinking that? do you have a better process for onboarding, let me know

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a long game For a small growing business, would it be worth investing in, you may be thinking? A client I met last week had one simple error on their website that was costing them up to £160k PER MONTH. Their contact form wasn't working. It wasn't saving submissions or even sending them to the team's emails. They only found out because a customer rang to check that they'd received their enquiry. They hadn't. Luckily for them, that customer told them. But what they didn't know was: 1. How long the form was broken for 2. How many enquiries they'd actually lost 3. How to even fix it Here is the maths behind it: Their average order value is £2,000. They complete about 3-4 sales per day = £6k - £8k There's around 20 working days in a month... £6k/8k x 20 = £120k/£160k This is why investing in your website in the first place is so important. If your contact form presents a poor user experience, or it doesn't even work, then you're turning customers away and potentially losing thousands in revenue. Find someone who knows what they're doing, and test everything on a regular basis! #Websites
