No one does festivals better than the Brits.🇬🇧 And it doesn’t end at Glasto, Edinburgh Fringe, or Notting Hill. Today in Warwick, I participated in the Future Fwd conference hosted by Warwick Schools Foundation that asked one straightforward question: 👉How can we best support and enable future generations to make a positive impact in their communities?👈 Some highlights from fellow speakers include: ✅ Humans should be accountable in a generative AI world. - Dave Coplin emphasized the importance of human oversight in the use of AI. He argued that we must ensure accountability to harness AI’s full potential. ✅ Schools are about more than knowledge; they should foster care, social mobility, and navigate red tape. - Duncan Murphy highlighted the evolving role of schools beyond traditional teaching. He stressed that modern education should support students’ overall well-being and future opportunities. ✅ Innovation centres are concepts for collaboration and skill development. - Vicky Bingham described these centres as more than just physical spaces. They are hubs for cross-disciplinary learning, reducing gender divides, and reigniting teachers’ passions. ✅ Help kids choose careers out of passion, not convention. - David J Harkin pointed out that 80% of people are dissatisfied with their jobs. He advocated for starting career guidance early, focusing on kids’ passions. What do Latest Budget Changes Mean for Apprenticeships in the UK?🤔 Some important updates to share from the latest budget announcement that could benefit both employers and apprentices. 🔹 Increased Funding for Further Education The government has committed an additional £300 million to further education, including apprenticeships. This investment aims to improve the quality and accessibility of vocational training, providing businesses with well-trained candidates. 🔹 Introduction of the Growth and Skills Levy The new Growth and Skills Levy replaces the existing apprenticeship levy, offering more flexibility for shorter apprenticeships and focusing on critical sectors. This change is designed to better align training with the evolving needs of the job market. 🔹 Change in Minimum Wage for Apprentices From April 2025, the apprentice minimum wage will rise to £7.55 an hour. This increase is part of a broader effort to make apprenticeships more attractive and financially viable for young people. Employers will still be able to benefit from not having to pay national insurance contributions for apprentices under the age of 25 to maintain the attractiveness for businesses to invest in training and develop new talent. 🔹 Focus on Young Workers Employers are encouraged to invest more in younger workers, with a shift in funding towards foundation apprenticeships. This aims to create more entry-level opportunities and address skills shortages in key areas. These changes reflect a strong commitment to supporting apprenticeships and ensuring they remain a vital pathway to skilled employment.
