And that’s a wrap! - what an outstanding experience it's been 🎉 16 weeks ago we started a 2hr online bi-weekly Leadership Programme to fit into busy schedules with 7 agencies involved. I witnessed common problems shared by group, such as: 🗣️ Avoiding tough conversations  🔀 Misalignment issues in teams  📋 Struggles with delegation Fast forward to now... ✅ Self-awareness and confidence are up ✅ Courageous conversations are taking place ✅ Collaboration is building, leading to better problem solving It’s been incredible to witness the confidence of the group evolve. “I'm more self aware and more honest with my team” “The Leadership Programme offered me an unbiased view of myself and what areas I need to focus on” What I find particularly admirable about the leaders involved was their willingness to dedicate time, effort, and resources to self-awareness, growth and experimentation. Amongst competing demands on time, it’s hard to prioritise time Leadership Development. Yet the return on investment, and benefits to self, team, company and clients are huge! The work doesn’t stop though It’s crucial to sustain and evolve We finished our final session with this… - Motivation is mood based and unreliable - ⭐️ Commitment is the goal ⭐️ When motivation fades,  Here's two questions to ask yourself to keep commitment alive…  1. What will stop me? 2. How will I overcome this? “The only constant in life is change” Heraclitus Last week at the CIPD Festival of Work “change” was a big topic of conversation. I also promised in last week’s post to share the Transformational Leadership Qualities that we teach in our THRIVE for Leaders Programme. Today I co-delivered a 3 hour Masterclass on Navigating Change with the Wonderful Becki Nazareth for a group of 40 Auditors for a global bank facing lots of change. CHANGE IS EVERYWHERE! Old “change management” philosophies are outdated because they rely on stability either side of that change. With global change in climate, economics, government, tech and more, change is constant (thanks Heraclitus 👆) This means that those old models often end in burnout. 📣📣We need to replace Change management with Change Mindset.📣📣 Leaders, by employing the Transformational Leadership Qualities below you can help your organisations and teams navigate change? 1. How often do you use each quality? 2. What do you need to dial up or use more? 3. Speaking on her career and Fellowship, Sharon said: “I have been lucky to have a varied career in the Employability and Skills Sector. I would like to say that it has been well planned, but in truth, I’ve just followed interesting opportunities, done my best to make a difference and moved on when I’ve seen a way to make a better, bigger or different type of difference. As a result, I’ve worked with individual jobseekers and learners to apply for work in the EU and as a Disability Employment Adviser. The big 'R' word - redundancy - I've been there, done that. And yet at the time I was not as aware, as I'm now, about the importance of good endings at an organisation. I know for one of my clients having a conversation about what a good ending would look like for them and for the organisation they were leaving really helped them move smoothly out of the organisation. How can businesses and colleagues be effective allies to Black employees year-round? #BlackHistoryMonth #LinkedInNewsUK I was privileged to hear Lee Chambers speak recently on the topic of allyship and loved the definition he shared from the old French word “allier” meaning to combine, unite and bring together. Having worked in the DEI space for over 2 decades, before it was a well-known term, I have seen awareness days, weeks and months rise in popularity.  They do serve a purpose to educate and of course raise ‘awareness’ but real inclusive work requires ongoing commitment and action, far beyond celebrating Black History Month. Here are some practical ways to be an effective ally: 👂🏻Active Listening: Engage in open conversations to understand the unique challenges faced by Black colleagues and create regular safe spaces for dialogue. 👌🏻Check in & reach out: Show genuine curiosity and compassion during challenging times (such as the recent UK race riots). You don’t need to have the answers, get comfortable with the uncomfortable. 📚Educate Yourself: Don’t rely on your Black colleagues to educate you. Take time to learn about the history, culture, and contributions of Black individuals. 🗣️Advocate: Actively support policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within the workplace. 👐🏻Mentorship Programs: Offer mentorship opportunities and peer support, specifically designed to support the growth of Black employees. 🥳Celebrate Diversity: Acknowledge and celebrate Black history and culture. 💗Hold Each Other Accountable: Encourage colleagues to speak up against racism and bias. Create a culture where everyone feels responsible for inclusivity. Say something is wrong and take action with clarity, calmness, confidentiality and clear communication. 🎙️Amplify Voices: Share the work and ideas of Black colleagues. Ensure they have visibility and recognition within the organisation. 👄Words Matter: As a business, establish a literacy that is defined, shared and understood. Individuals and organisations all have a responsibility to nurture an authentic, inclusive culture where everyone is able to thrive. ⚠️Be aware that there is often a vast difference between your intent and actual impact. You know you’re on the right path when the end feels sad. Last night was the final module of the pilot for my Bright Light Leaders programme. A group of 10 like-minded, growth-seeking women joined me as we explored topics ranging from leveraging our inherent strengths to building our capacity through nervous-system regulation to archetypal patterns and developing our intuition and finally, to communicating with clarity and conviction. And of course, the Enneagram provided an insightful thread that weaved its way through the full voyage. To say this group was special is an understatement. The chemistry between all 10 participants felt strong right from the start, maybe because each and every one of them didn’t sign up on a whim or without really thinking it through fully. They all recognized a need in themselves to do life differently: to figure out how to stop giving their power and way and to start living life in a way that feels true to who they uniquely are. Whilst this programme is essentially a leadership programme, the shifts have shown up for each woman in very different ways. One is finally making a city move that she’s been dreaming about for more than 15 years. One has quit her job to start her own business, and has made the brave decision to part ways with her long-term partner. Another has found her voice at work and is starting to take more credit (and more space). One is feeling ready to step into her next life transition. And one dear young woman has found an anchor and a support in navigating her way through cancer. At the end of the call, most of us stayed online to continue chatting, not quite willing to press "leave meeting". We talked about the potential for a reunion event and a “next” programme. For me this is a true indication of what has transpired in this space over the past (nearly) 6 months. And it’s these moments that remind me why I do the work I do. Reflection sometimes has to be forced on us... but it is always worth it. An opportunity for some to reflect, others to listen and consider and for the whole to connect. Yesterday we delighted in our June Radiant Leadership session where we explored the theme of SLOW, INTENTIONAL PRODUCTIVITY. 💡 ⚡ How do we ensure that we do less but achieve more? ⚡ How do we make impact without exhaustion? ⚡ How do we recognise and take responsibility for where we have bought into hustle culture and toxic productivity? ⚡ How do we choose a new path when society STILL rewards busy? Some of the juicy topics we discussed: 👉 CLARITY IS KEY! More often than not the busy, hustle comes from the fact that the work has not been done up front to define what is important in your role and what success looks like for you and your organisation. 🛣 👉 Noticing how our struggle to say “no” and therefore stretch ourselves too thinly / pull ourselves off track is tied to our self worth. How much worthiness are you putting on your ability to get ‘loads of shit done’? And at what cost? 😳 👉 As we climb up the leadership ladder we need to move ‘off the dancefloor and onto the balcony’ - spending less time doing and more time thinking, observing, communicating and leading. But the balcony feels like a harder place to be so we avoid it! 💃 👉 We need to stop being a slave to our people - we can be kind, compassionate leaders and still have solid boundaries! Where is your kindness facilitating dependent teams? A question for all apprentice training providers. What current planning are you undertaking to assess the impact that a Labour Government's change from the Apprenticeship Levy to a broader Skills Levy will have on your business? Are you identifying how the funding of alternative, often shorter qualifications, will affect your apprenticeship offer? Are you mapping across those other qualifications? Are you looking at different alternative qualifications that you might be able to deliver in your specialist sectors? If this plan comes to fruition, it could mean the death of some of apprenticeship standards, as employers flock to an alternative. This might be especially so for standards that contain a mandatory qualification. No-one knows if or when all of this might happen, but it is surely worth considering the strategic impact on your business if it did.
