Google's John Mueller has clarified the use of both noindex and canonical tags on the same page. Initially, he suggested it might work, but now he advises choosing one or the other. The noindex rule tells Google not to index a page, while a canonical tag signals a preferred version. However, if both are used, the noindex can effectively negate the canonical, leading to uncertainty about how Google processes the signals. Eli Schwartz has some interesting views on SEO, particularly around challenging the notion that rankings equal conversions. His comments at the beginning of this interview on AI overviews are very interesting - publishers need to now focus on middle of funnel than broad top of funnel searches. I'm starting to see 'shop ratings' showing in the UK for transactional intent keywords where a collection page is served. Early reports have seen that this helps massively with click through rate (so long as your reviews are good!) I imagine that the number of reviews will also matter, with sites that have more 5-star reviews seeing the biggest benefit. It's common knowledge that rich product results which show reviews can help CTR (both organically and via Google ads), but if they can help drive CTR to collections, too 0, it's win-win! You don't need any specific schema or Structured data to be eligible, but using a third-party review aggregator supported by Google will help. These include... Marketing agencies often have a poor reputation. Jason M. Lemkin, who is generally skeptical about the value they deliver, echoed this sentiment in the SaaStr London event. Agencies often damage their reputations by bringing senior people to the pitch call and delegating the work to junior staff or, worse, having a junior SDR do business development for the agency. The ones where the real subject matter experts are involved with the daily work are the exception. Some of the agency owners agree. Lars Maat from Maatwerk Online highlights this as a key mistake agencies make that leads to poor client retention: "I’ve heard a lot of stories from our clients who were at other agencies before, but where they’ve left because they were being consulted by junior people while they were being told they were getting consult from seniors. Or that a senior person was doing the sales talk and convincing the client, but when they’ve signed the deal, the senior was nowhere to be found." If you run a marketing agency, it may be worth asking your clients how they feel about you in this regard and potentially re-evaluating your processes. #marketing #marketingagency #agencies #agencyowners

Limiting your targeting in a campaign at the end of Q4 can be problematic due to several strategic and practical considerations: 🗓 Shortened timeframe for results Q4 deadlines: the final quarter is often a crucial period for businesses to meet annual goals. Narrow targeting reduces the audience size, leaving fewer opportunities for success within a limited timeframe. Sales cycles: Many B2B sales cycles are lengthy. Reducing the target audience in Q4 may not leave enough time to nurture relationships or move accounts through the funnel effectively before the year ends. 💸 Budget utilisation Unused budget pressure: companies often aim to utilise remaining marketing budgets in Q4 to maximise their yearly ROI. Limiting the audience or activities can lead to underspending, which may result in lost budget opportunities or reduced allocations for the following year. CPL increases: With tighter targeting, the cost per engagement or lead acquisition may rise, leading to inefficient budget use in a critical period. 🎄 Seasonal Factors Holiday distractions: many decision-makers may be unavailable or less responsive during Q4 due to holiday breaks, which can amplify the risks of reduced reach and engagement when targeting a smaller audience.
