Get Retail Ready The Food and Drink TechHUB Business Support Service are hosting a FREE Online Workshop on Get Retail Ready which will take place at on Thursday 10th October 2024 from 10am-12pm The online workshop will support F&D business at the start of their journey and considering engaging with retail, wholesale and large customers. Delegates will benefit from insight into the practicalities of trading with larger customers and some of the tactics to set them up for maximum efficiency, profitability and success. Often, we focus on securing the sale with the customer but what comes next and how can we sustain these relationships for the long term? Larger operators are often reluctant to trade with small businesses, perceiving them as lacking infrastructure and resource to trade efficiently. 📣Thrilled to see the launch of our #GMDigital Inclusion Social Impact report! This report includes highlights from all ten of Greater Manchester’s local boroughs, community organisations, social housing and businesses that have been working to fix the digital divide for people and businesses in the region. So proud of what has been achieved, together! The work continues, but it’s so important to acknowledge the milestones, the lessons and how far we’ve come. Massive recognition for our ten local authorities and their digital inclusion leads. Without their concerted effort to find solutions, adapt to needs and work as a regional team so that lived experience is not a postcode lottery, tackling digital and social exclusion would be short-lived. Four years ago as the pandemic began and we began to see the extent and depth of need for those that lacked the ability, skills and tools to get online to access vital services, I remember speaking to Simeon Yates University of Liverpool who summed it up perfectly ‘Digital exclusion is everyone’s problem, but no one is owning it.’ Well, this is how Greater Manchester has owned our part to tackle the UK’s growing socioeconomic divides. GOV.UK's new #Forms platform is ready to enter a public #beta phase according to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology - the platform, developed by the Government Digital Service as part of its work in creating common components for digital services in government, is to be rolled out across central government. Christine Bellamy, CEO of GDS, said: “GOV.UK Forms enables people running government services to create online forms in minutes, without the need for coding or design skills... My thanks goes to Joss Colchester and the team at the Systems Innovation for putting on a much needed and important 2 day conference in London. The theme of systems innovation is incredibly important one.... especially as we see the legacy, siloed and transactional institutions that surround us struggling to deal with the complexities of the challenges we face and the gathering storm clouds of the Poly/ Meta Crisis that are looming larger than ever. I was invited to talk about #systems #transformation in the context of the future of health. This is a broad topic in which I sought to address the planetary forces at play that shape the contexts and possibilities for #health and human/ planetary #flourishing as well as the huge opportunities to reframe around a new vision and systems orientation. One that both speaks to the deficiencies of current approaches and invites the birthing of a new whole systems approach to our individual and collective health in the 21st century. For those familiar with my work you will know I have been deeply fascinated in the interconnectedness of all things and the ideas of continual change and systems within systems/ holons within holons. This was a great opportunity to share ideas in both theory and practice I have been working on for some time mostly in the area of the future of health. A new report sets out future vision to support and transform our high streets The UK’s biggest business group, Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), has unveiled a package of new measures to help transform life on our ever-evolving high streets for the millions of small firms based on them. Thank you to The British Academy for providing a space to explore notions of the Digital Good ESRC Digital Good Network. This is genuinely a team effort by so many diverse authors, combining the expertise of academics and strange hybrids such as myself. The result is a positioning piece that interrogates the idea through multiple lenses: 'In order to think about the possibilities of a good digital society, we need to consider what we mean when we use this phrase. This is because a good digital society is ill-defined and contested, despite being widely assumed as a goal, and the resulting lack of consensus is demonstratively harmful. The Digital Good Network is leading work in this area, examining how the term ‘good’ is used and understood in digital contexts, in order to answer the urgent questions: what does a good digital society look like? How do we get there? In this paper, we map out the scale and nature of this task, whilst elaborating on what we believe to be the necessary conditions of moving towards a good digital society. First we summarise important debates and contributions. Then we identify three societal challenges which need to be addressed in order to arrive at a good digital society: equity, resilience and sustainability. There’s this UK Government article about “User research in government” titled: “Why we care more about effectiveness than efficiency or satisfaction”. https://lnkd.in/eJXAgW2E I googled the difference between effectiveness and efficiency and Britannica gave this: "The words effective and efficient both mean "capable of producing a result," but there is an important difference. Effective means "producing a result that is wanted". Efficient means "capable of producing desired results without wasting materials, time, or energy". What approach would you employ when working on your own projects?
