Thanks to Market Research Society (MRS) for hosting a webinar today to support the launch of Data Storytelling in Marketing. There was a great turn out and lots of questions. My favourite question was in response to the idea of needing to balance proactive 'meta stories' with reactive 'trigger-based stories'. It would be great if 20-25% of our data storytelling time was spent telling stories that the business needs to hear, rather than those that align to specific projects and activities. In reality, the long tail of requests eats into that time and we don't get the headspace to dedicate much time at all to these stories. But just having just 2 or 3 meta stories that synthesise multiple project insights and align to powerful messages about the customer/ consumer/ market can make a significant difference.

We are pleased to see the publication of Ipsos UK's new report, conducted in partnership with CAST, on Net Zero Living in 2024 🌍 The report explores public perceptions to net zero in the UK, providing valuable insights for policy makers seeking to understand and enhance public support for net zero policies 🏛 By understanding the factors that influence public perceptions of net zero policies, policy makers can develop more effective strategies for building consensus and driving action on climate change. Three key takeaways from the report: 1) Britons continue to be worried about climate change (77%), however, there has been a slight softening in concern in recent years 📊 - Could the cost-of-living crisis be overshadowing the climate crisis? 2) Public support for net zero policies is significantly influenced by personal impacts, so framing policies in terms of positive personal impacts boosts support 🙌 - Cost savings are a particularly strong motivator, especially on policies like adjusted product pricing & EV subsidies 3) We need to make climate action personal & relatable 🤝 - Highlighting the co-benefits, like cost savings and convenience, is crucial for building public support.
